JRemote Outside Home Network
« on: March 06, 2019, 11:17:49 pm »

Can JRemote control MC on a laptop outside a home netwrok?
I tried to connect to the server on a laptop using a JRemote on my Android phone. They won't connect.

What is a good solution for JRemote and MC outside a home network?

Thanks

Yes, it can.
You will need to set up port forwarding on your router for the port that JRiver uses to communicate with JRemote. You can check if that port is open online (google 'check open port').

Is there a way for the MC server to communicate with the remote on Android without any other devices?

I am a DJ playing music on the MC and I want to be able to control MC on the dance floor.

Thanks

Yes, if you have a network.  There are devices that let you do that.

Can you please elaborate on what device I need?

I bought a small router. I can get both the computer hosting MC and my Android phone to connect tot he router.
But when I use JRemote to connect, it kept saying:

1. connected to the server on IP address I supplied 192.168.0.101:95199 (can't remember the port number)
2. could not connect (timeout)

What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Thanks.

192.168.X.X IP addresses are only used within a private (internal) network. You have to use your public IP address instead if you want to access your media outside of your network. You'll have to also make sure you've got the port forwarded correctly as well or else it will not work.

You can get your public IP address here: https://www.whatismyip.com/

If you have a dynamic IP address, you'll have to update it in JRemote every time it changes (e.g. when connection drops and reconnects, modem/router reboots, etc.). If you have a static IP address, it shouldn't change.

And the correct port (unless you've changed it or are using SSL) should be 52199.
