Mediacenter 25 uses more resources from PC
« on: April 01, 2019, 11:43:18 am »

Hi there,
I never noticed any problems with the usage of processor and/or memory in any previous edition.
But now I've installed a test version of MC25 and I noticed during a labour intensive task that my PC responded slow.
So I opened Windows task manager to see what's going on and to my surprise MC25 used way more resources than I've seen before  :o
Checking if MC24 did the same, same task,  but that was not the case.
MC24 uses on average 0.2 to 2% of my processor (or even less) playing with play doctor from my library that is on a HDD on my PC
MC25 is using up to 15% for exactly the same task, usage of RAM is also higher. (see attachment)
So what could be happening here, as far as I see I am using the same settings in both programs.
Specs are:Windows 10 64bit build 1809, AMD Ryzen 5 2600x 16GB Ram

That should settle down when thumbnails are built.  It's normal at the beginning.

I think you'r right Jim.
Since 1/2 an hour all is back to normal.
Isn't MC25 supposed to take the thumbnails that are already made in MC24?

No.

MC25 is supposed to find and use the Cover Art (full-sized image files) from MC24. But any major MC upgrade is always supposed to rebuild the thumbnails database. It is a special database that may not transfer cleanly to a new major version of MC. Rebuilding it provides a clean copy, which is good, because sometimes it can get a little out of whack, in my experience. Not often, and usually due to other non-MC issues, but sometimes.
