Hello,

Today I tried to start up Media Center several weeks after installing to my new machine after my laptop died. I had already entered the registration code that was sent to me upon payment several months ago. For some reason it asked me for the registration code again on start-up and sent me an email afterwards saying, "You have just restored a license for JRiver Media Center. There are 10 restores available in each 12 month period.  There are 8 restores remaining at this time.".

Can someone explain why my registration information was wiped on the new system, and secondly, why would it consider my code to be a "temporary install key" when I used the original key? The wiki is not helping me , but maybe I'm overlooking something obvious.

I only have one computer now after finally building my new system and I figured that it wouldn't pose any problems if I migrated my install over to my new system.  ?

Yes, it should...  but it doesn't. 
That webpage makes me feel stupid. If I'm using my registration code, and the registration code is permanent, why was it not permanent and why does it seem that my install to the new machine the first time around wasn't permanent either?

This seems needlessly complicated. I have my registration code, I installed and punched in the code that I paid for. The program phoned home to let you know that my code was used, most likely with my hardware signature. I'm also reasonably sure that the system can see that no other system has been using or is currently using the code except my current box.

Please spell this out for me in a Media Center for dummies fashion, since the wiki has failed to do so (no offense intended).

Things happen on computers that are beyond our control.  I don't think you need to be concerned.

And for obvious reasons, we don't provide details on licensing.  It generally works.  We don't see many problems.

Ok. Thanks for your assistance and sorry for failing to grasp the whole registration/license code thing. I haven't had a lot of sleep lately and hence my lack of brain power I guess? I assume these extravagant measures are to stem piracy, but if you want a little feedback, I feel a bit of insecurity as if my license will be yanked out from under me at any moment with this current arrangement. Anyway, I know you'll tell me not to worry, but I'm just giving you my initial impression in case you'd like to take that into account.

One of the most common reasons this can happen, especially on new machines, is, if the user changes the computer name, the MC license will need to be reapplied.

The 'tempoarary' key file you receive is valid for 14 days after generation, meaning you have 14 days to apply it. Once applied within the 14 days, the registration will be permanent. This allows you to use the registration file on computers you own that might not have internet access.

That actually answers my question exactly. I did rename the computer from the generic "DESKTOP-JHOG5679HUO234GJH780NMKOJP180" name that windows 10 decided on.
