Media Server on LAN
« on: May 15, 2003, 08:47:53 am »

I Love it, yes I do!  Centralised management, distributed content.  It's exactly what I've been thinking about developing for myself for years. Thanks for saving me the sleepless nights.

But one thing really bugs me... streaming to clients on a LAN.   All the machines on my network (4 besides the server) have direct access to all the media files.  The only issue has been finding the media I want (if I didn't already know where to look.)  Wouldn't it make more sense to just play the file directly, if the client machine can access it over the network, than to stream it, possibly changing the bitrate in the process?

Streaming does not change the bit rate.

There is a potential problem when two clients try to write to the database at the same time (see the other media server thread).
