Custom field doesn't import
« on: June 01, 2019, 10:44:39 am »

Unluckily one of my custom field is not recognised anymore in version 25.0.45…
I checked the jmd file of that field inside the library folder and it was just 6KB when before upgrading MC it was 4.550KB.
So I tried to substitute just that file in the library folder and see how MC reacted: the field was still empty for every single audio files even though the jmd file wasn't altered.

Is that a bug?

Try restoring a backup.

Just tried three times with different restore files and it was useless…
I verified with the latest mac version and it was ok.

Maybe it is a bug!

About the presumed custom field tag bug, I just discovered that MC doesn't "read" the old jmd file: you have to update the library from tag for every single file to re-create it from scratch!
That way I seem to loose the PeakLevelSample tag and thumbnails for every single audio file… :-[

Try MC's Tools.  I think you can use Update Library from Tags, but try a few before you do very many.

Hi Jim,
thank you for the advice but I think it is exactly what I meant when I said that you have to update the library from tag…
Apart from being a very very very long routine as my library is rather huge, I'm losing the PeakLevelSample tag doing that and I really don't understand why.
And I also lost all my thumbnails when I restored from a backup to try to make MC 25.0.45 see the jmd file relative to my custom field!

I'm really perplexed… ::)

Would you be willing to make a library backup available to matt at jriver dot com?

I don't think there have been any library changes for a while, but I'll sure take a look and see if anything shakes out.

Thanks.

Hi Matt,
thank you for your attention!

Any recent library backup will do or you need the latest one?
I've already began to UpdateLibraryFromTag and so the latest one is a work in progress…

Cheers.

Thanks for the backup.

What field are you expecting to show up that is not?  I looked and a bunch of the custom fields are filled in.

Thanks again.

The field is called "original creation date": I just re-tried with the latest version (25.0.49) and it doesn't show it.
But updating the library from tags you can make MC to show it again…

The field file "field (original creation date).jmd" is just junk.  It's supposed to start with "MJD-0024" but instead it just starts with stuff I don't recognize.

Where did the library backup come from?  It seems like even that Media Center wouldn't have been able to load the field.

Thanks for any more details.

That backup was made automatically by MC when I opened the program on the first of June.
I did substitute the jmd file taking it from a previous backup (I backup every time I close MC!) because MC 25.0.45 reset that field as soon as I opened MC after upgrading from v.25.0.40 but actually I don't remember if I did it before MC backed it up…

You need to find a copy of the field JMD that actually starts with MJD-0024.  Otherwise it won't open.

…and I found it!
And it was in a backup made on the 29th of May…I wonder what happened in the meantime.
Maybe it was the day I upgraded to Windows10, version 1903: should that be possible?

Anyway, why if I update the library from tags I loose the Peak Level Sample tags of all the files I made MC read the tags of?
And why I also loose the thumbnails when I restore a backup?

I copied the jmd file relative to the Peak Level Sample tag from the same backup of May and that restored things to the pre-upgrade state.

Now only the thumbnail problem remains…but I can survive even if I have to rebuilt those from scratch!

Thank you Matt for your kind and precious support!

'Losing thumbnails on database restore' also happens to me. There are about 400'000 thumbnails which survived update from MC24 to MC25. But after restoring the database all thumbs need to be rebuild. Several PC in my home have access to the same media files. From one single PC I do organize it all and backup the DB which then will be restored on any other pc. In earlier versions this worked fine and fast. Now, rebuilding the tumbs takes almost a day.
