NUC settings for monitor or NO monitor
« on: November 05, 2019, 03:12:56 pm »

All, I assume this question is properly aimed at the Media Network category (?).
I have one remote playback location, operated with JRiver system that was pre-installed on a NUC two years ago.  Recently, I shut down the NUC to move it to another room n my home.  When I booted it back up I temporarily (I believe) set the menu  for use CONNECTED to a monitor (which I did connect via hdmi).  Everything worked fine.  When I disconnected the monitor (because I didn't need it any more) that play back server location on my tablet (in JRiver Remote) failed to appear.  I went into the NUC menu after hooking the monitor back up and selected "2" ENTER -- which I believe was the correct choice for operating it "HEADLESS," without a monitor connected (?)  But when I boot the NUC and tablet back up, I cannot get the NUC server to appear again on the server list in JRiver Remote.

QUESTION -- How do I get the NUC to operate properly and register in JRiver Remote without being connected to a monitor?

THANKS ALL!

You can remote login to the NUC from another PC, and in the configuration menu you can set it to run headless.

Andrew,  THANKS very much for the fast response.  I'm not sure I understand -- in that from my main PC screen I see the name of the NUC but don't know how to access the screen with the numbered selections.  BUT..
I have been plugging a keyboard directly into the NUC and selecting "2" (Headless, ENTER) from there; then disconnecting the TV monitor -- which  then removes the NUC listing from my JRiver Remote screen on my tablet (The opposite of what I want).  So that doesn't work.  So -- is it the case that I am not able to issue that "2" command directly into the NUC from a keyboard?  Is there some sort of indication on the NUC screen that indicates that it has gone into Headless mode?

THANKS

You should be able to connect from your PC to the headless NUC by means of a “console” application; such as for example PuTTY which ships with Windows (or at least used to).

Andrew -- Thanks again for responding.  Forgive my ignorance, but without getting into additional software complications, how can I change and retain the headless operation of the NUC?  I AM able to connect a keyboard directly to the NUC in combination with a TV (through an hdmi connection), and I am able to select that #2 Headless selection.  I guess I just want to hold that headless setting after I disconnect the hdmi TV connection and after I need to re-boot the NUC as necessary.

Is there any simple solution?

THANKS

When you say "JRiver Remote", do you mean JRemote?  On an iPad?

Good Morning, Jim:

I am using JRemote 20.0.2 on an Android tablet.  I have been using MC 23 but am preparing to upgrade all software.

Just trying to remedy this problem first and eliminate the need for a TV screen hdmi connection in the same room.

THANKS

Jim (and all...)

I am wondering if you saw my answers to your questions (ABOVE).   ...AND if those answers shed any light on my question?

Thanks!

I think this is just too complicated a question to answer with any certainty.

You could download MC25, install it, and use the trial for 30 days.

There is a new version of JRemote for Android coming soon.  It won't be free.
