We've got several new programs in progress now, so I thought I'd list them here, newest to oldest and give you a quick summary of each and some links.  Some of these will require MC25 or MC26.  You can purchase a discounted upgrade license.  All licenses now work with both versions.

JRemote2
It's the complete replacement of JRemote for Android.  Hendrik rewrote it and the intent is to equal or surpass the quality level of JRemote for iOS.  We're currently testing this internally and it should be available on the Play Store in a couple of weeks.

JRiver for Android TV
It's a special version of JRiver for Android and it's the same download, but it's different.  It can be operated with a D-Pad remote (up and down arrows, left and right arrows, and the OK key).  Available on the Play Store as JRiver for Android, but you may have to take some special actions to install it.  Release Thread and Play Store Link

JRiver for Android
Same program, different interface.  The user interface looks like Panel, but it's a complete app, based on the MC source code, so it has more capabilities than Panel.  It can act as a DLNA Renderer, for example.  Available on the Play Store as JRiver for Android.  Play Store Link

Bingo SSDP
This is a great app, but somewhat overlooked so far.  I use it all the time to find other instances of JRiver running on my network.  SSDP is a well known standard tool of TCP/IP.  TCP/IP is the protocol upon which the Internet is based, and you use it every day.  Bingo SSDP can send a signal that other apps respond to.  MC will respond with its Presentation Page (a sort of DLNA "hello").  What you get is a list of running instances of JRiver and each has a link that starts up a Panel connection to it.  Available on the Android Play Store.  $3.00

Panel
Our web app remote control program, Panel, runs in a browser, so it will run on anything that has a browser.  It's started by an instance of MC, so there is no separate application.  It gives you control of the MC that started it and you can play there or on your device which is running it.

I've been using Gizmo since the dawn of time, and it certainly has its limitations, so the thought of JRiver for Android is enticing. $9.99 and a rating of 1.9 is not. The reviews don't paint a pretty picture at all. Can it be used to control playback on another MC, or is that functionality reserved for JRemote2?

If your primary (or only) use-case is remote-controlling another instance of MC, then JRemote will be more suited for you.

I can't comment on the quality of JRiver for Android, but the play store can be a cruel and unforgiving place.

Hi Jim,

Noting that there is nothing in your list of apps that relates to iOS specifically - could you guys fix Panel Video playback on iOS? Currently running Plex for this purpose, but would prefer using Panel instead.

Do a search of the forums, JRemote for iOS is still being maintained. In fact there was a JRemote for iOS update released back in July. Also if you search in the Remotes section of the forums you'll see Bob has recently been trying to reproduce reported bugs in JRemote for iOS.

So JRemote for iOS hasn't been abandoned, orphaned or ignored.
