MC26 Countdown
« on: December 09, 2019, 06:07:45 pm »

We expect to release an early build of MC26 on Friday, December 13th.  Please watch this thread for news.

When we do, we'll start a new thread for questions and installation problems.

If you bought an MC26 license or bought MC25 recently, you will receive an e-mail with instructions.

Thanks!

Edit: A Windows build of MC26 was released yesterday.  It's in a thread near the top of this board.

Mac and Linux builds will follow in a few weeks.

Here are the steps.

On Friday, you will find a new build of MC26 on the MC26 board on the JRiver forum.  We'll announce it here.

Download it.  You'll find it first in a thread near the top of the MC26 board.  Look for "JRiver Media Center 26 ..... Available Here".

Install it.

Restore your MC26 licenseHere's how to find your license and restore it.

MC26 will probably find your current library and use it.  If not, then backup in your old version and restore the backup in the new version.  Backup is under the File Menu.  MC makes automatic backups as .zip files.

That's it.  You should be up and running in a few minutes.  If you need to ask a question, please post on the MC26 board in the thread dedicated to installing MC26.

HOW GOOD IS MC26?
It's already a significant improvement over MC25, and there are some very useful features, but we've just begun.  Your MC26 license will work with all future updates of MC26.  Read more on Upgrades.

LICENSE QUESTIONS
How Licensing Works is also explained in the links above.  You can recover your license by using option #2 on our Restore Page.

Oh. I didn't see any mention in the email that Friday 13th is just Windows. Ah well, remember to send out another email when MacOS arrives.

 :o

MC26 issue with WDM so now using MC25 WDM which is stable and hangs around in my Windows 10 Sound choices. MC26 is usable carrying on from MC25 otherwise.
MC26 WDM is a no-show currently. Restarts and reconfigs didn’t help. Check it out please.

As an aside, I’ve had an hour of fun - not. Both MC25 and 26 on a system certainly confuses the pc and me! I played Mark Ronson’s Spies In Disguise as a trial of Qobuz running through MC26 into my MX-Dac. I tried to get WDM out of MC26 recognised by starting media server and centre at startup. Ronson wouldn’t have recognised his own recordings. There was tremelo constantly mixed with his partial reverb which made it unlistenable and I was thinking who’d buy this?? But as I closed each app off in turn the music continued. Used task manager to close off the server in start up but the music continued.
Finally closed everything and rebooted. Cleared so using MC26 ok, playing Qobuz at 24/192 but using MC25 WDM to do it. Ronson’s Spies is now recognisable as his!

Thanks

Make sure MC25 and MC26 are closed, then uninstall the WDM driver from Windows' Device Manager (and check the box to remove the driver files when it asks) - if there's multiple WDM drivers like for MC25 and MC26, remove them all, reboot and then reinstall the WDM driver in MC26.

Hi, did all that, and removed MC26 as a program and the download file. No WDM driver under MC26 to remove, MC25 removed. Downloaded MC26 again and re-installed. WDM checked and the disc spun for wait time - like it was downloading/installing. Closed and restarted MC26 but no change. NO WDM installed under devices. No option under Sound to select MC26.

I won't mess about, the music is why I'm here and this week's new music is up so I'll use MC25 for now. Thanks

Thanks Awesome Donkey for your post on the WDM driver.
Followed your instructions and finally got the JRiver 26 WDM running.
Had to do it running JRMC26 as admin tho.

Actually, Melbro - it loaded wdm for JRiver Media Center 25.
I had actually uninstalled MC 25, and supposedly also the JRMC25 WDM driver, however the WDM apparently is still that for JRMC25, as shown in Device manager - control panel in Audio Inputs and Outputs.

Had unchecked WDM in Option->General->Features & restarted JRMC26, then checked WDM and restarted, but the WDM still appeared as JRMC25's driver.

Checked Properties for the WDM that appears as an input in Device manager, then went to Events tab on Properties screen.
There were 3 events generated resulting from re-starting JRMC26 with WDM checked:
#1 - Device startede
#2 - Device configured (audioendpoint.inf)
#3 - Device not migrated.

Information for 3rd event showed an error code with text "was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match".

Okay, try this...

1) Make sure both MC25 and MC26 are closed. Since you already uninstalled MC25, you'll have to reinstall it to do this.

2) Open MC25 as an administrator.

3) Go to MC's Options > General > Features and uncheck the WDM driver if it's checked there.

4) Close MC25 (and make sure it's fully closed).

5) Run MC26 as an administrator.

6) Go to MC's Options > General > Features and check the WDM driver if it's unchecked there. If it's already checked, uncheck it, close MC26 then run MC26 again as an administrator and go back to MC's Options > General > Features and check the WDM driver.

Close MC26 and start it normally (not as an administrator) and see if it works then. If it works, then you can uninstall MC25 if you want to again.

Otherwise you'll have to open Windows' Device Manager (make sure View > Show hidden devices is checked in Device Manager) and find the WDM driver that way and uninstall it (along with the driver's files when it asks).

The version in the WDM driver is irrelevant. Both MC25 and MC26 use the exact same driver. Once its installed it also has no ties to whichever MC version it came from, so you can safely uninstall any you don't need anymore.

Thanks Hendrik for the clarification. Didn't know if there had been any changes in the driver for v26.

Even when I follow Awesome Donkey's steps above, the result still appears as the WDM driver for v25.  No WDM for v26 appeared in Device Manager inputs,
however, since the driver is unchanged it should make no difference at this time.
