NVIDIA Shield - before I invest
« on: January 17, 2020, 08:28:37 am »

- Does the implementation of MC on NVIDIA Shield TV Pro supports the Shield Remote?
- As I understand frond end for Shield is based on Panel. Is this correct?
- How does the Video quality compare to madVR (Jinc AR, Lanczos AR)?
- Is this a good point in time to buy Shield TV Pro 2019 or should I wait (it would replace my MC based video renderer and ATV)?

The front end for the mobile version uses Panel. The Android TV version required a java interface, to work with the remotes and support the format better. You can see some screenshots on the Android TV Play Store.

The Android TV version is still very early in development. It does not use madVR. It will eventually use ExoPlayer for video.

If you don't need a new streaming box you might as well hold off until the Android TV version is more full featured.

I haven't been able to load a library yet but the interface seems pretty. It is similar to the interface of the Shield, which is very easy to use, but with a lame MC background.

P.S. I know that I should be able to load a remote library but haven't had the chance to try.

It was clear for me that a different video engined would be used for Android TV. I wanted to know how video quality compares to RO Std and RH HQ.  :)

I've been able to load a library, but only music (audio) works; no video either MKV or particles play.  I expect they will work out the kinks.  The library also won't show any of my TV Shows; only personal video and movies appear for some reason.  I've tried clearing cache and re-installing but same issue each time.

Video should work in JRiver for Android 26.0.21, now on the Play Store.

Tried the new version .21 and video plays now, TV shows also appear.   particles do not play which unfortunately is 95% of my library.   hopefully support can be added even though they would be transcoded.

jriver for android keeps getting better!
