JRiver player core has overflowed during format conversion
« on: January 20, 2020, 10:24:39 am »

I have been re-analyzing my library, chunk by chunk since the waveform change came.  So far I've covered about 35k of 100k tracks and this is the first time I've seen this message.

I had lots of tracks queued up in this set, and the background says it's at 5657/5658 completed.  I built a smartlist that looks for "Waveform is <empty>" to qualify tracks to re-analyze.  After clicking close on this window there were 4 remaining that should have been analyzed.  2 @ 16/44.1 and 2 @ 24/96.  I reselected them and re-analyzed and they went through without error.

Figured I'd post it here since the message asked so nicely :)

Do either of you get the error every time on the same file?  If so, please share a copy with me (matt at jriver).  Thanks!

Ran 26.0.27 today to analyze 14 files (unchecked the analysis box and set to analyze 8 at once).  Got a core error (as before on .20 and .22 but those runs were with 55,000 files).  The analysis showed all 14 songs done except for the ninth song (My Mother the War) which stopped at 91%.  I reran with ONLY My Mother the War and it analyzed fine.  I then reran the same 14 files 3 more times and got no errors.  I can send the My Mother file if you want.

I reported this in the "NEW: Waveform of playback" thread, but see I should have reported it here. I reran the file I thought was the problem, but it worked fine. If there had been a pause button I may have been able to isolate the file. Perhaps better logging combined with easier reporting?

I left JRiver set to include the info in the file tags. I am hoping someone can advise me on my questions from the other thread (re: storing values in the file tags vs just the database vs both) so I can restart the process.

I am on Win 7 Pro, 64bit with Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

Thanks!

What antivirus are you using?

Norton (for all my tests)

Uninstall it (to test).

I disabled all components - firewall and auto-protect  (did not uninstall).  Error happened again (not at same file)

No.  It happened a few times, but every time I re-analyzed the files, it would complete correctly.

I did my entire library (100k files) and this error popped up maybe 10 times.

Uninstalling is the only way to eliminate it as the cause.  Disabling isn't enough.

Latest Windows 10 when it happened for me.  I keep it up to date.

Then you are running antivirus software (Windows Defender).  Please read the thread on it here and follow the directions.

OK, I just re-ran the scan over night. I have a few tens of thousands of files and a pretty decent computer; it didn't take too long. Same version of JRiver. I didn't disable security software. No error messages this time.

- I mostly just reported the error message in the first place as the popup said to hurry and report it to JRiver. It quickly became apparent (in my case) that the same file didn't trigger the same problem twice. If this continues to be an issue you may want to have the software auto-create a log file and give the user the choice to click something and send it to JRiver.

- I realized under "Options > Library & Folders > Auto-Import > Analyze for HDCD" I had it UNchecked. I couldn't tell if that had kept my scan from looking for HDCD files (conflicting info in forums, Wiki, etc) so I checked it and re-re-ran all my lossless files. Still no HDCD files appeared. Not surprising. Honestly, I still am not sure what is and isn't exactly necessary to have JRiver scan for HDCD files. ;-)

- Under "Options > Library & Folders > Manage Library Fields" I unchecked "Save in file tags when possible" before scanning, merely to save space. Of course I am also saving Album Cover Art in the files, which takes up way more room, so this choice may be silly.

- Question: In the Analyze Audio UI, there is the "Process n files at a time" choice. Choosing more at a time definitely speeds things up. It probably commands more resources. Would choosing more increase the chance of an error?

- It may be a false perception, but I could swear volume leveling works better now, especially when mixing music videos and audio files!

- Likewise, I have found the new Waveform feature is much more practical than I thought. I have already used it many times when looking at songs quickly! This alone may have made this upgrade worth it! Thanks!

- Suggestion/Request: Have a "Pause" option in the Analyze Audio UI.

- I wish you had MP3Gain-like functions built into Analyze Audio to permanently volume level files in a lossless way. I am not sure if the technique would work with non-MP3 files. I still run MP3s through MP3Gain before importing into JRiver.

Sorry so long. Please answer questions and/or correct any assumptions I am making. Thanks to everyone!

I put a fix into build 29 and newer.  Please test once it's available.  Thanks.
