HMO Smart Playlists - Broken in .16x?
« on: April 29, 2003, 05:47:28 am »

I posted this in the 161 thread, didn't get a response... .162 has the same problem...  once you goto view a SmartPlaylist (regular ones work fine) on the TiVo there's no way to select and play songs individually.... the foreground text stays white, the background goes black as if it's kicking to the play screen, but then just comes right back to the listing page.

This happens both when you press select on a song and then goto the play option and when you just press Play while a song is highlighted in the playlist.  The only way to play a SmartPlaylist appears to be to hit play on a selected playlist from the list of Smart Playlists..

(I know, excessive use of the word list there... hope it wasn't too confusing...)

Hi dmbfan36, I thought I posted a reply to your previous message. I can't reproduce that here. Make sure that the smart list is choosing songs that are playable. It sounds like the song you are trying to play is corrupt or non-existant. Check the Media Server log to see if there is any info there.

Hey John.. it's only happening with the 3 random playlists... the high bitrate, top 100, etc all work fine...

My library is up to date... the files I'm trying to play do exist...

Check your TiVo settings to see if you have random mode turned on. (Go to one of the non-random playlists, start playing, hit enter, and see if it is in shuffle mode). Let me know.

Excellent debugging sir... yes shuffle was on... once I turned it off they worked again...... I assume you now know how to fix this? ;-)

Not off the top of my head. I did limited testing of this a while ago, and convinced myself it was doing something reasonable but non-intuitive. What you reported was not reasonable behavior though.  Now that I know how to reproduce it, I'll see if I can't do something with it.
