Dolby Digital 5.1 passthrough
« on: April 28, 2003, 07:32:58 am »

Is this supposed to work?   If so, my AV Receiver is not detecting a 5.1 signal when playing a DVD through MC.  PowerDVD works fine.  Is there something  I need to do to enable this?

The sound device is an onboard CMedia 8738 with SPDIF out.

I've been through the audio properties when playing a DVD and tried a few of the options but it's not working.  I get sound but just not 5.1.

Thanks

Try switching the DVD output device.  I have a list of 4 and only one works with Dolby Digital on my home AVPC.

Right-click on the DVD playback in MC, and it's like Audio->Output Device or something similar.

Hope that helps...

Yeah, that's what I meant to say above..  I tried that last night with no luck.

I have listed:
*C-Media Wave Device
Raviscent ATI S/PDIF Adapter
Raviscent S/PDIF Waveout Renderer
Default Directsound Device
*Default Waveout Device
Directsound C-Media Wave Device

I can get sound from the two marked with '*' but no 5.1.  When I attempt to choose any of the others I get an error:   "Unknown Error Attempting to select a new audio renderer".

I once had Raviscent's Cinemaster player installed and could never get 5.1 sound so I removed it and bought PowerDVD which worked fine.

Any ideas / Suggestions?

Could it be the ATI stuff causing problems? The ATI software works fine as well. I understand they switched from Raviscent to PowerDVD for their latest drivers/dvd player tho...
