Bandwidth KingSparta's new Picture
« on: April 18, 2003, 03:24:13 pm »

It is not nice to have your Picture come from someone else's site.

Copy it to your site at a minimum if it is not copyrighted.

Or since JRiver has some space, maybe we will be allowed to store them here.

Just had to do this cause I is a COP.

but still have fun.

Keystone:  I'm curious what the estimated percentage of bandwidth would be stolen by such a transgression of computer etiquette.  I mean, a 50K image (if it's on the right side of large) compared to the available bandwidth would seem quite minute.

And who decides the etiquette?  Is there an Emily Post of the cyberworld?

P.S.  My apologies to JRiver for using their electrons to submit this message...  feel free to send me a bill  ;)

I suggest we strip all DSL and cable users of 100kbps and give it to 56k baud modem users.

Just to evenly distribute the Bandwidth wealth

stealing is such a harsh word and maybe not PC

I would rather think of me advertizing there web site and I am creating leads for them, i do know there subscriber base has gone up in the last 2 days.

was it from my marshmello chicks?

If so they owe me some money, 3% will be ok with me

Keep in mind that JRiver's servers are caching the image as well (as long as the image is opened enough and is still in the system cache). It may check the validity of link, but that's it. To prove this, change your (user provided) avatar to some other image but keep the filename the same. It can take some time for the new avatar to appear. Servers usually have broadband/Tx connections to the web, so a 50k file is nothing.

I don't think this is altogether accurate.  If you look at the properties of an image and it's path says "http://www.foxnews.com" then it's not present on J River's web server at all.

Doesn't matter...the graphic is still cached. Here's the url to my avatar => http://home.revealed.net/xen/Viv-56-1.gif. Per my example, I have changed the graphic before while maintaining the filename...it was not updated immediately...so it was cached.

Your browser's settings may affect this.  In IE, it's something like "check for new something on every visit".

KingSparta , I liked the old Picture better than this one.

That's why you should copy to your site.  Some sites just don't like you taking pictures.

I have a re-occuring dream from time to time (starting 30+ years ago)...

Picture this...
It was the episode of Speed Racer where these little remote control cars would get under the racecars and take control. They would be re-directed to this road that at the end had a gigantic melting pot sitting there. Several cars went in. Chim-Chim saved the day by pulling the little car out from under Speed's car and he veered off at the last second (it was a tense moment). How CC pulled the car out with the full weight of the race car on top of it is a mystery to me (SR was never technically accurate and broke many Laws of Physics).

My dream was nearly a carbon copy of this episode except that instead of dialog there was music. Songs played were Valerie by The Monkees, Young Girl by Gary Puckett, and the best (which made the dream really weird)...The Inner Light by The Beatles. I'll try to have the same dream again tonite and detail this post a little more.

If anyone happens to see this episode (listen to the listed songs, too) and has the same dream...let me know.

edit: King...here's the lyrics...

Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer
He's a demon on wheels
He's a demon and he's gonna be chasing after someone
He's gaining on you so you better look alive
He's busy revving up the powerful Mach Five
And when the odds are against him and there's daaangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Racer's gonna see it through
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer go

He's off and flying as he guns the car around the track
He's jamming down the pedal like he's never coming back
Adventure's waiting just aheeeeeeeeaaaaad

Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer Go!

Keep your av for a while, it's cool!

Here is an absolutely killer:D:D:D Speed Racer clip...

link

It is a 5 MB mov file. If you want to save it after initially watching it...check your Temporary Internet directory and copy it out to some place safe (or better yet...right click on link and select Save Target as...). Enjoy!
