Media Center 9.0.157 is available.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90157.exe

History:
1. NEW: Media Center does not require Windows Media Player any longer.
2. Fixed: Deleting all the text in a smartlist would show the wrong results until the smartlist was saved.
3. Fixed: Sorting (or showing) a view without any files could crash MC.
4. Changed: WAV plug-in now only outputs at 32-bit for more obscure, compressed formats -- uses source bitdepth for standard PCM WAV's.
5. Changed: Search ~sort modifier wouldn't understand "random" if it was inside brackets.
6. Changed: JRiver video codec much better at seeking.
7. Fixed: SDK mixer automation object didn't update it's eq state to reflect changes made in DSP Studio.
8. Fixed: Playback engine menu wouldn't display on monitors with negative coordinates.
9. Changed: Image playback displays a helpful message when there are no images queued.
10. Fixed: Fast-forward, rewind, and possibly other accelerators weren't being handled in full screen mode.
11. Fixed: Autosizing did not work for Rating column.
12. Fixed: Media Center would not allow in-place editing of rating column in skins without rating image.
13. Changed: Media Server logging is better.
14. Fixed: Media Server TiVo bug allowing playlists to run off the end.
15. Fixed: Media Server TiVo bug preventing mp3 streams with a path from playing.
16. Changed: Mega-me skines included in MC install package have been updated to support graphical ratings.
17. NEW: Aspect ratio control for video files.

I know this is no show stopper, but since you just introduced this new feature...

Doubling clicking on the rating icon in the "Playing Now" list sets the rating (when all you wanted to do was play the song).

Again, no major thing, so feel free to ignore this.

The new Direct Show Video mode is nice but if you navigate away from MC and back when you are watching a video that does not fill the playing now window you get leftovers from the other window appearing in the black region to the right of the video.

When ripping and also renaming, submitting to YADB, or changing other file settings, the little status window that says "Updating info (or whatever) (1 of 23)" will stay at 1 and not update.  It does get done, however, because it will disappear about when it should be done.

Find A Radio Web Link That Does Not Work.

Try To Play It.

Then Hit The Delete Key Or Shift & Delete

MC9 Will Not Delete It Untill You Reboot The Program.

Does this mean you can uninstall WMP? And if it doesn't need WMP anymore, why are the codecs still installed with this build?

Maybe.  Don't do it yet.  This build is the first to use DirectX filters to play file types like AVI and DIVX.

For discussion, please use the DirectX thread.

First of all, I love the graphical ratings--very slick.  Any chance of getting it into the Amped  Mega-me, or will it only work on the skins included in the MC9 program itself?  No biggie, I'll switch to Tekkno if it can't be included in Amped...

Going from an mp3 stream to an mp3 file causes the sound to become garbled.  If you hit the stop button in rapid succession, MC9 terminates.

Haven't tested it yet but just wanted to say:

HURRAY on getting rid of the need for WMP.
Gotta say - I've been waiting for this one for AGES. Never said it because I always figured it was a pretty big one but handling the video's yourself means that all those STUPID playback problems caused by WMP will be gone. Also, if your playback develops like the rest of MC then the playback engine hopefully will develope to be able to match PowerDVD in terms of pure, clear, reliable video playback.

Never liked the fact it relied on WMP instead of having it's own playback engine.

Your good at keeping me smiling :)

Last point:
Still BEGGING for burn playlists not to be automatically cleared.
Either:
  • a prompt box saying it's about to be cleared: ok, cancel.
  • or just leave the playlist there
  • or auto save it

Imagine in Word if you printed a document and then went back to it and it was all gone. You phoned up MS to report the bug and they were like: Yeah, you've already printed it, we figured you'd either have saved it before hand if you wanted to keep it or you can just input it all again using the print out you have.
It's the EXACT same with the burn playlists. Sure some people remember before hand, for those of us that aren't always putting 100% thought into something as simple as burning a CD though it's SOOO frustrating.

Still having the quicktime problems I've been having. I'm running XP and QT6 if that helps. System Info is below. Let me know if there's anything else you want me to try or any other information you need.

DirectShow causes MC to jump to the front if it transitions from one video to the next while MC is in the background.

Thumbnail selection bug is still present.

Media Scheduler is working much better now, thanks for fixing the various parts of this. But one thing remains. I can now "tape" a four-hour radio program at 96kbps wma. But I can still only play it back in Windows Media Player with full controls. If I start to play it in MC, the time bar shows 0:00/4:00:00. Once I play or scroll to about 1:45:00, the display pops to about (minus) -01:12:00, and the scroll button pops to the far left, so I can no longer fast forward, rewind, etc. in that latter portion of the file. It looks like the variable you're using to hold the time is to small to hold longer time periods? Can you fix this so I can ditch WMP? Thanks. ;) :)

Not sure if this is a problem only with the .157 build.  I went to play a CD, it plays the first 5 seconds and then locks up.  I can't close it, it switches to a blue screen (which I haven't seen in along while) the system recovers but then I get this error.  I'm running windows 98SE, I'll have to shut down the system to post my system details.

Hello folks,

.157 looks great !

Still a bit dissapointed that I can't display the composer field (and maybe other custom fields) in my carefully designed visualization as it was possible in MJ8.

Anyway, Matt, Nikolay and all the developer's gang you did a marvelous job on MC,

Merci les gars !

Probably not a major issue, but right clicking on a playlist of 9 files in Playing Now produces the following in the pop-up: "Play (19 files, 43:42).

Same results when you select/right click on the identical group of files in Media Library.

I noticed a similar thing.  The display that shows no of files playing etc does not seem to update properly.  For example send some files to the burner and the display still says G: no files queued.  Any way this could update a bit more regularly?

.157 bug I just discovered

When playing a playlist with playback options Cross-fade aggressive (duration 8secs), playback does not stop at the end of the playlist. Instead the last secs of the last song gets repeated over and over. The Stop button must be pressed to actualy stop playback.

Think I have seen this bug a while back.

This Quicktime bug is really odd. Sometimes if I play a playlist of mixed .mov and .avi/.mpg files, MC is fine, no problems. Other times it vanishes.

It crashes everytime if I have a playlist of only .mov files and click stop.

Could the version of quicktime the files were encoded with matter?

Media Keyboard Play/Pause Button
« Reply #27 on: April 23, 2003, 05:24:53 am »

On both Logitech Cordless and Microsoft Natural keyboards - the combined Play/Pause button still launches and gives the focus to Windows Media Player even when MC has focus to start with. Other media keys/controls are okay - MC captures them and they work nicely. But Play/Pause has always slipped through to WMP! Any ideas?

Thanks for the additional information. Do you see any patterns with certain quicktime files (i.e. certain files always cause problems and others always work)?

Great work with the aspect ratio control, guys
Ctrl-Left and Ctrl-Right don't work on AVI files.
Quicktimes still sometimes show too big when played from Hairstyle
Switching between Mega-Me, Full Screen and Hairstyle is very slow when playing a Quicktime.

Yeah, I have some that crash MC every time. I'll burn some to a CD and bring them in to work and see if they crash my laptop as well. If so, I can put them up somewhere for you to download and try them if you like.

About a previously mentioned crash I was gettin
« Reply #33 on: April 23, 2003, 09:52:31 am »

I have a bit more information about the crashing I mentioned in another thread about a week ago.

I seem to only get the crashes when I have the "remote control"  Remote server running.  These crashes happen seemingly randomly but almost always within 15 minutes of starting the program.  I have not noticed the "pause" problem I mentioned earlier (where the song would just loop when unpausing and MC would be then be locked-up).

BTW, I am using the remote control web interface to screen-scrape it for my personal homepage.  I have a little section that shows what song is "playing now" on my workstation.  I really like that remote control feature.  I would love to know how I can tweak it to show the entire song info (artist, album, etc., not just the song name)

For now though, I have the remote server turned off and, with that off, MC9 is performing very well for me.
