App cannot connect to the Media Server from an iPhone.  "Could not connect (The Internet connection appears to be offline)".  I am attaching a screenshot of the Connection Summary.

Versions:

Media Server 27
JRemote 3.33
iOS 14.0.1

I also have an iPad with the same iOS version which can connect with no issues.

Anyone have any ideas?

Apple tell me that a device can only have one Apple ID.   If you cannot recall it, then the device cannot be used.   A dreadful waste of money
Been fiddling for a further month now

Surely they must have given you a bum steer. If you do a factory reset on your iPad it will wake up totally clean, and then you can configure it with whatever appleID you want.

Is there any way to customize what metadata fields are displayed on the metadata/bio screen? I know they're editable, but I'm looking for a way to (for example) get rid of the Ratings tag display and add the Comments tag for the whole library. I couldn't figure out if this is doable in Media Network/Advanced/Customize Views.

I'd love to be able to do this, too!

The thing I'd like to see with iOS JRemote more than any other thing is proper support for home-buttonless iPhone screen sizes. On my iPhone 11 Pro and my wife's iPhone X, it is still letterboxed (all these years later). This is, I'm sure, related to the mentions above of pillarboxing on the home-buttonless iPad Pros above. And since, with the release of this year's devices, those sizes have now moved across the device lineup, it has now moved to the "mainstream".

That seems like a reasonably minor adjustment, and it would really be nice to see it.

Otherwise, of course, I still really, really want the ability to use JRemote offline with locally cached files (where you can pick a particular Playlist and it automatically syncs those files to the device nightly via Background Updates, and then has a special locally-cached copy of the Library it uses when it can't get online). I live in a place with very spotty cell reception, and JRemote is all-but-useless for music playback while I'm driving around. But that is, of course, a bigger ask.

For now, I'd take it just using my full screen.

Bob, I'm wondering if that zone index/hidden zone bug has crept back in.  I'm seeing crashes if "app follows server zone changes" is on.

Perhaps.
The code there is pretty basic, it used to include everything and modified a few select fields to make them display better.
I've made it skip over some fields that are obviously useless in that setting like the raw waveform data, etc.

IIRC that was mostly an issue with MC.
I know there have been some changes in that area in the most recent builds of MC27 that SHOULDN'T cause issues, but...

Are you on the release 3.33 or beta 3.34?

And is this repeatable on a iOS13 or newer device?

+1 to wer's post. No longer able to play music on iPhone 10 (iOS 14.2) from connected server (W10/27.0.20) on 3.33. Unable to add/modify zones. "This Device" no longer available.

Do you have hidden zones on your MC server?

Try deleting and reinstalling JRemote. That will clear out it's database.

@bob -

had further opportunity to test the 3.34 beta while traveling this past weekend.

I was able to remote play several videos over LTE/Wifi (mix of mkv, particles to mpls files, mp4) without issue, and airplay to ATV.

the quality and stability were fine.

Has 3.34 been released?
Also, sorry to mention this again, is there a chance that we will see scrambling playlists by composition (linked tracks) rather than just tracks, in a future release? This would be super useful for classical music.
many thanks!

I have not released it yet, soon.

Part of making your suggestion about the linked tracks would likely require changes in MC. I'll pass it by Matt...

Thanks Bob, I appreciate it.

Matt, please, please have a look into this. I understand if it is too much trouble but it would really enhance JRemote tremendously for those of us who listen to classical music a lot. For playing classical music, Composition/Work/linked tracks is everything.

thank you so much

Just some further 3.34 testing - i have now logged a lot of hours of audio and video playback, including Airplay to ATV 4K devices.  This release nailed it.  No issues.

@Bob - if there is anything specific you want me to test before you release, please let me know.  Happy to do so.

Hawi

Have I missed something, what are you asking for , PlayDoctor selecting a whole Composition rather than odd movements. How do you link the Composition other than the same names on each movement

I too am very interested

Hey Mike,
In a library view, in the track list, you can select the tracks belonging to a composition and then <Right-Click> select Library Tools>Link Tracks
When you do this, and you play any track from a linked list, MC will automatically play all the linked tracks in the correct order, I believe, based on track #. If you have a playlist and you shuffle that playlist, it will shuffle all linked tracks together, therefore shuffling by composition. This is, of course, extremely useful for playing classical music playlists. It works perfectly on MC on my iMac but it doesn't work if I play the same playlist from JRemote. In JRemote, linked tracks are broken upon shuffling. I find it difficult to understand why because the linking is obviously done in MC (i.e. on the server) and JRemote should just play what the server provides but my understanding how things work is obviously wrong. I have been asking about this a few times but haven't been able to get an answer.
best wishes,
Hans

Thanks Hans , never knew you could do that OOPS ...

I rarely use shuffle or playlists for that matter so I obviously haven’t come across it

I've come to love playlists, especially the smartlists. So powerful, you can generate a selected list of practically any combination of conditions, it's amazing
