Please make lyric download multi threaded. It seems to me currently lyrics are downloaded one song a time. It takes forever to update a relatively large database.

That's probably not a good idea. Think about it, if a lyrics site detects an app (or individual from the same IP address) trying to make multiple connections to download lyrics all at the same time like this, it might cause you to get IP banned from those sites. I'd say it would very likely get you IP banned in fact.

High-End,
On the server, you can change the layout that the remotes use.  This has been discussed many times here.

For example:

I've asked before so please forgive repeating...I wonder if when streaming a radio staion you could possibly record it with JRiver?  I understand it used to be possible in earlier builds.  When I stream now I cannot record the stream with Audacity, DiamondCut DC10, SoundTap Streaming Audio Recorder, etc. But if I use Windows MP or VLC they all capture the stream. Yes, I know it's probably something I haven't set up properly...I admit it!! Just though it would be 'nice' to be able to keep it in JRiver.  Thanks (looking forward to MC27)

Would like to see an option to change the default selection behaviour for music tracks and videos in Theatre View:

Select an Album, select a track, have all tracks in the Album added to Playing Now, and play from the track selected (i.e. cut out the often unneeded 'Play All' step/screen)
Select a video, play the video (i.e. cut out the often unneeded 'Watch' screen/step)

Something similar was requested for the former a while ago:

In MC26 the highest setting for simultaneous conversions is 8. I have an 8 core, 16 thread cpu. I would be very helpful if MC could use all my threads for conversions. I have my entire music collection on my pc in lossless. When I transfer to my phone I like to convert to lossy. Using all 16 of my threads rather than 8 would speeds things up substantially. Thank you

I know if you pay for JRiver you are "enough" hardcore to experiment a bit but what if the pros already know the best settings for you? And this is what I want a "Simple mode" for, or less advanced. Whenever I try to recommend JRiver to my friends they always tell me it is way too complicated and I hope there would be some feature in the future that will change that.

1. Database searching in JRemote.
For years now, I've been saying that I'd like navigation in Media Center to be search-driven rather than library-driven.
I'd still like to see that happen, but it's doubly-important for mobile apps like JRemote.
JRemote only searches the current list view, not the MC database. If I want to search for an album name, I need to first navigate to a view which includes it - I can't just hit the search button and type the name.

2. User support for JRemote clients.
Being able to log in with a specific user for JRemote, which only grants them access to specific views tailored to them, is crucial for a family-friendly setup, or making things easier for a spouse when they get views tailored to their media.

3. JRemote support for the 2018 iPads.
JRemote still doesn't support the new aspect ratio of the 2018 iPads. It will have been two years in October.

4. AirPlay support for Zones.
Every new mid-range/high-end smart TV now has AirPlay 2 built in.
Every new networked/smart speaker that isn't produced by Amazon/Google.
And most new home theater equipment too - whether it's a sound bar or an AVR.

As a result, every room in my house is now equipped with AirPlay 2 receivers; and Media Center can't interface with them at all.
There have been workarounds using multiple third-party tools duct-taped together to kind-of make AirPlay work, but it doesn't integrate well.
You can have an "AirPlay zone" in Media Center but need to be at the computer to control which device that plays to, and it doesn't work so reliably for me now.

Look, I know that you don't like interfacing with Apple APIs, but AirPlay has been around since 2004 now, and AirPlay 2 was announced in 2017.
To have AirPlay support for Zones, where each zone can transmit to a specific individual device, would make a huge difference to how well Media Center integrates into a modern home media setup.

5. Official voice assistant integration
Alexa support is nearly as ubiquitous as AirPlay 2 support these days, and the least-expensive way to make an existing setup "smart".

6. Apple TV JRemote client.
We can dream, right?

That's a pretty Apple-centric list.

Don't the Airplay devices also support UPnP?

1 is a key point, and an example of the modernity that JRiver has been lacking when compared to other media serving solutions.

While we're on the topic of JRemote, I've got a few additional gripes feature requests:
  • Fix the problem of tracks randomly not showing up (same problem in Gizmo and Webgizmo)
  • Save the current view/playlist/location in track when you close the app so you don't have to re-navigate to it every time
  • Allow for downloading tracks to the device (most streaming services support this)

Fixing just these things would be enough for me to upgrade. As it stands, I don't really see a reason to...

That's a pretty Apple-centric list.
Don't the Airplay devices also support UPnP?
It is an Apple-centric list, but that's because I don't want to have to work to set up and maintain devices any more.
Except for Media Center integration, Apple devices cause a lot fewer problems for me.

I don't have the time to spend on projects like researching and buying all the parts for a Raspberry Pi build, waiting for everything to arrive, putting it all together, spending hours setting up all the software - to end up with a setup that only does 90% of what I expected it to, and then requires maintenance a few months down the line when things start acting weird.
Instead of $150 on a project like that I can spend $30 on a used AirPort Express v2 or $190 on an Apple TV which works, and holds it value if I ever want to sell it.

Having the Apple TV remote turn on all the AV equipment to the correct inputs with a single button via HDMI-CEC, and then being able to search across multiple streaming platforms in a unified interface with a single voice command makes everything so much easier for family. It has replaced all other devices for them.
I would love to be able to access my Media Center library on it; but it's probably the biggest "ask" in the list, and the lowest priority when there are alternatives like migrating to a Plex-compatible library structure - despite my reluctance to do so.

As for tablets - is anyone other than Apple even making high-end tablets now?
Google largely seems to have abandoned Android development for tablets, while Apple strengthened their commitment to the platform with the move from general iOS to iPadOS last year.
But all I'm asking for is support of the new aspect ratio introduced in 2018, not a new app.

And AirPlay 2 support just seems to be the way the tide is turning these days:
You buy an LG, Sony, Samsung, Vizio TV and it has AirPlay 2 support.
Bought a new Bose or Sonos smart speaker? AirPlay 2 support.
Buy a new Samsung, LG, Sonos etc. sound bar: AirPlay 2 support.
Buy a new Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo etc. AVR and it has AirPlay 2 support.
Most of these also include Alexa integration now as well - though I'd prefer to use that for control, not direct playback. I believe Amazon has quite a lot of restrictions for audio playback.
But if I AirPlay a track to one of the smart speakers, I can say "Alexa, next" or "Alexa, volume 50" to control its playback. That's the kind of integration I'd like to see via Zones in MC.

Some of those devices listed - most likely the AVRs - might also support other networked protocols such as UPnP/DLNA, but it's usually their own proprietary network protocol instead. The one point of convergence across most new devices now seems to be AirPlay 2.
I think the only device I have which does support DLNA still is a Sony TV from 2010 that I plan on replacing soon.
AirPlay is seamless and works great for multi-room playback now with v2.
The big advantage it has over anything else is that it runs on WiFi, but you can connect sources directly to it as easily as a Bluetooth speaker.

Probably not going to happen, here's a recent topic explaining why: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,125509.0.html

MQA decoding would be fine.

Also probably not going to happen, JRiver has said multiple times they have zero intent on supporting MQA. However, unofficially you can passthrough MQA through Media Center by a) not using any DSP whatsoever and b) setting volume to 100%.

Can you add HQPlayer audio support
To JRiver.

Would be grateful.

Ive supported JRiver for years by upgrading each year and ñot one new feature you've added yet has been useful from audiophile point of view.
Which at a point were cant  be bothered with jriver any more
I use Roon mostly now. But would go back to jriver if you just give something back for loyalty.

Regards

Edward.

You guys really should do a forum search before posting, as Jim already answered this 2 years ago.

https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114655.msg792883.html#msg792883

TL;DR, they're not interested in adding HQPlayer support (nor adding support as a Roon endpoint, in case you're wondering). However they are (or at least were at the time) interested in possibly expanding DSP Studio with new filters, and at the time were open to suggestions.

Hi,

Support for Amazon stick. Currently i can upload the app but i can't access the different categories as the remote does not interact well. GIZMO works sort of OK.
Support for streaming on JRemote for android. I can not access the streaming section from JRemote for Android, just from JRemote for IOs.

Many thanks,
O

I use a server as a master server for JRiver. Meta Data Changes or music file deletions, updates etc. are only done on this server. All other computers with JRiver gets copies.
For me the jriver sync mechanism is useless. It sync in both directions. I need update of (new) music files or meta data only in one direction. The reverse direction should be protected.

I sometime create file copies in mp3 format.
I would like the idea only to update the meta data of already converted files without converting them again. This would save a lot of time.

Apologies for adding to the ever increasing list of feature requests, but....

I've asked for these over many years having bought licenses for MC21 (and perhaps older) through to 26 (only skipped 25 I think...)

Perhaps Jim or someone from JR could just tell me there simply isn't access to the code to make these options available or I don't make a strong enough case :-)

New Theatre View options:
(1) Option to disable animation/3d effects on cover art - in particular the distracting 'elastic' animation - it just becomes an annoying unnecessary distraction on the horizontally scrolled views (even with a modest number of albums/videos!) when it floats 3d backwards and forwards and takes ages to settle back to something viewable again! (see pic 1 below) - a bonus would be to options to remove the cover art angles (pic 2)/rotation animations etc. and just have simple fades.

(2) Option to change the cover art size and/or margins on all views. AFAIK the scaling option applies to vertical scrolled cover art view but not the other views (only text gets enlarged). Music albums (1:1/square) seem to be quite well scaled already (see pic 3 - skipped couldn't upload pic - maybe they could be a bit closer together...) but DVDs/BDs (1:1.5/rectangular) have a fairly large gap between them (pic 4). Some way of adjusting these sizes/gaps and separately for square/1:1.5 ratio covert art would be nice.

(3) Option to disable the drop shadow that's added to all the text in Theatre View would make things more legible/cleaner.

(4) Duplicate of another post in MC26, but... offline backdrop.jpg support (stored with album or video file) for albums/videos that shows up as a background when on an album is selected (e.g. pic 5) and in playing now (e.g. pic 6).

(5) Customisation of the text that shows up under the cover in playing now - for example, I don't need to see the volume setting as I leave it at max/bit perfect, but visibility of the time remaining countdown without having to scroll to it (i.e. the ability to add it in the main text block that's currently hard coded [artist]  [track]  [duration]) would be nice.

(6) Duplicate of another post, but this: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,126183.0.html. If I click enter on a track (e.g. pic 2) just play the track and add all the tracks underneath to playing now, without having to go to another screen to play all (and similarly for videos where there is an intermittent 'watch' screen) - I don't need either step every time I select media, I just want it to play)

Some phone video clips that I take need to rotate 90 degrees. Please provide capability. Perhaps you should ask the user base what would be one feature that would compel them to buy MC27. This would me mine (kidding, I am planning to upgrade even if you don't implement this request).

For me it would have to be Qobuz integration, I am aware of the previous discussions on this, and the JRiver view that companies such as Qobuz don't have a sustainable business model, but it is a good product and shows no signs of going away, and I would switch back to JRiver from Audirvana in a heartbeat if this capability was offered.

If my media server is in eastern time zone and I'm streaming to my computer in pacific time zone, I have to set the time zone to eastern to see the correct guide listings. It would be nice if the guide time could be shifted to meet other time zones.

For example: if it's 3:00 pst, my client pc guide shows that Judge Judy is on. When I tune to the channel, it's the 6 pm news. There should be a simple way to offset that guide time.

A visualizer for active PEQ filters would be really helpful, like VST plugins often give.

It would be a sensible addition though IMO the whole PEQ screen needs an overhaul as usability is really bad in general. A faster/easier way to input/save/load filters is required as well as some way to import from commonly used filter design programs (such as REW). API (MCWS) access to such features would be useful too.

Mattkhan, totally agree. Actually the REW GUI for PEQ is simple and informative.

I found a thread on audiosciencereview.com that shows REW back to back with JRiver's PEQ interface:

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/mucking-about-with-minidsp-umik-1-rew-and-jriver.12646/

I thought the linked posted accurately describes the process of importing from REW to JRiver:

"As my speakers are placed asymetrically in the room, I generated a separate set of EQ settings for the left and right channels and set about plumbing them all into JRiver, which was quite a tedious process,"

I agree, if a better implement is possible it would be a big improvement. And also help integrate JRiver with the REW folks, which is probably a good thing.

Please add support for bitstreaming of files that don't contain a video stream.

See this thread https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,122750.0.html for a discussion of the issue.
It would be really nice to have Bluray audio Dolby Atmos files played without needing to include a video stream.

I use the Audio Calibration tool to play pink noise then look at Analyzer.  It has the advantage that it's actually drawing exactly what is happening instead of just the theory.

Unless the jriver DSP engine is broken, the theory and reality will match.

Other problems with this approach include; poor low frequency resolution, no dB scale, no adjustable dB range, no ability to isolate a channel, no way to see the contribution of individual filters, even worst user experience as now you have to switch tabs back and forth and turn off all other DSP (if you want to isolate effect of peq though even that is not possible necessarily, e.g. if a crossover is in the convolver)

View > Audio Only Mode ?

What I meant you go to playback options there is [Audio]
but now there is one more option [Simple Mode] instead of like 20 options u get to choose 1 to 3 options instead of 30 and "it just works" perhaps worse than if you just configured correctly but much better for beginners who just want to try it out.
