Adding the possibility to rename channels instead of standard 7.1 channel abbreviations.

Using JRiver as electronic crossover with 8 channels (7.1 output), it would be easier if the
standard channel names (left, right, center, sub, SL, SR, RL, RR) could be renamed by the
user (i.e.: LowL, MidL, HighL, etc.).

This would make easier and less confusing to make the filter configuration so that each
channel name corresponds to each way of the filter.

I've long wished for a "Tasks View" in MC that would show a list either in the action window or the tree of the queued tasks that MC is working on. Basically when MC's status bar is indicating that it's saving changes to my library with a number of files remaining, I'd like to be able to see a list of which files those are and what action MC is carrying out on them (copy/move, rename, save tags, etc). This would be super helpful for times when MC seems to be stuck saving changes. I could go see what file it's stuck on and deal with it if possible. Ideally this task viewer would allow me to cancel 1, some, or all of the queued tasks.

Often I hear different classic CD's one after the other.
My config said "continual playing" as standard. But I would like to have a break after each classic disc.

I would like to see a option to have a 10sec. break between two disks

A visualizer for active PEQ filters would be really helpful, like VST plugins often give.

Here are a few examples, pulled randomly from google:

https://images.app.goo.gl/SYhN5m5djFkfHyc49

I requested this last year as did others (and it has been requested for several years before), but please can we have proper graphical representation of the filters/x-overs we have input in DSP. I know I can use the Analyzer with pink noise, but that is really only a crude respresentation of the filters.

Having good graphs would enhance safety - it's all too easy to uncheck a tweeter x-over and not notice when you have no visual representation for what you have just done. I have several active speaker systems - all with x-overs/eq done in JRiver and it works well - a visual representation of the x-overs/eq would be a major improvement here. After many years of using JRiver and its DSP function I no longer consider this to be a "nice to have" - it really should be a "must have."

Thank you.

1) Provide a (child  :D ) locking method so the (x) Convolution tab doesn't accidentally get turned on/off.

Good idea

2) Allow the realtime ANALYZER display to have its own separate/independent window to verify proper channel orders and verify convolution XO low/band/high-pass filter curves are working as expected.

Both of these features would help those who use convolution for software crossovers and would add a layer of safety precautions (similar to volume protection).

Don't want to blow tweeters due to a single accidental misplaced mouse click waiting to happen.

Thanks much.

Any chance JRiver will create apps for streaming devices -- like the Roku streaming devices, NVIDIA shield devices (Android) TV,) Fire TV devices, and Apple TV?

My guess is most JRiver users have one or more HTPCs or Raspberry Pis, but I think the days of HTPCs throughout the house are limited.

My Ultimate List for V27:

1. Linking support for List Type in Theater View

2. Opus tagging for MC and JRemote native support

3. Enable adding of playing now info to Theater View template
  • See attached picture

4. Seemless communication between JRemote and library
  • Shared playing nows example: I'm coming home from work and been using JRemote to listen music/podcast or watched video or whatever. Now when I come home I would like to continue to listen/watch on my home equipment and JRemote/MC could have trigger to move playing now items between MC and JRemote (or e.g. create playlist which starts from where I was currently). And same the other way round so if I leave home and want continue easily on the road

5. Podcast streaming support for Theater View (and JRemote)
  • Podcasts episodes only appear in Theater View/JRemote if I have downloaded the episode. I would like just stream some of the subscripted podcasts without downloading

6. Add Playlist Group tree hierarchy for file adding to playlist in Theater View
  • If you have many playlist it is very tedious to scroll to the right one. Grouping UI would help user experince considerably.

7. More JRemote centric wishes:
  • JRemote to remember current playlist between sessions
  • JRemote to be able to keep the current connection to library when I move from wifi to mobile and vice versa
  • JRemote metadata presentation revamp. It's quite useless currently for dates and big data fields and if you have big data fields you need to scroll forever to find the ones which comes after

I've asked before so please forgive repeating...I wonder if when streaming a radio staion you could possibly record it with JRiver?  I understand it used to be possible in earlier builds.  When I stream now I cannot record the stream with Audacity, DiamondCut DC10, SoundTap Streaming Audio Recorder, etc. But if I use Windows MP or VLC they all capture the stream. Yes, I know it's probably something I haven't set up properly...I admit it!! Just though it would be 'nice' to be able to keep it in JRiver.  Thanks (looking forward to MC27)

YES i have trying to get this work on JRiver 26  NO success?   What i would really like a  PAID PRO SUPPORT that i could call and get a PRO to help with configuation, setup . even if it cost $100 an hours  it would be better than what i have now...

I would like to see a SIMPLE  PRESET as well for NON AUDIO people
Audio mode doesn't change the complexity, or settings that can be messed up by ONE MOUSE click
i have installed many JRiver and this is what happens to most of them
a  simple setting would be very helpful and BTW you may sell more ....hmm!!

Alternate playback speeds, in particular for audio books and podcasts.

Good idea

Motivation:
  • faster playback of podcasts. I listen to many, and often enough a 1.5 speed setting is still understandable and lets me get through more podcasts at the same time. Non-fiction books is a similar case.
  • slower playback if, for example, listening to foreign language readings

Players like Apple Podcasts and Audible offer this options, and I use it frequently.

I've used Media Center since v9 to manage just about every type of file on my systems. Everything from recipes to financial statements. Media Center currently supports a wide range of file types and unfortunately not some that would make it a fully "digital media" management system.  I would like to request that the team entertain the value of providing the user with the ability to define their own filetypes.  In my current case, it would help me define projects as playlists and maintain all associated project files and media in one place and eliminate the need to hunt & peck through my extensive NAS system.

I am hopeful the team takes this into consideration or provides some direction on how to manage filetypes not listed in Media Center.

Thank you for an awesome product!!

When importing cue files, have the option to automatically copy the separately read files into actual separate files (which currently can be done with 'Rename, Move & Copy Files').

The reading into separate files fooled me into thinking that this splitting/copying process had already been gone through (read: I be noob).

Identify chapters and create one file per chapter when converting audio book m4b files to mp3.

There's free tools out there that do that, but I am sure that MC would be able to manage this more elegantly and efficiently.

I would love the ability for MC to natively stream video and audio to a Chromecast, either by appearing as a Zone and/or inclusion of the traditional 'Cast' icon from JRemoteto easily redirect output to the Chromecast.

Thanks for inviting feature requests. My number one request is for a smartlist that calls another smartlist to maintain the order of the called smartlist.

This would tremendously improve the capabilities for programming music the way I want to hear it.

Thanks so much!

I do really support this as well. Because you can never see in the F6 windows which preset is active.
So I would propose to write the active preset in the bottom line of the window - always visible.

Please integrate the possibility to convert in m4a/aac not lossless.
I mean "Advanced Audio Coding" (AAC) as native codec.
I currently use QAAC and Nero AAC but a native integration would be very good.

I have been asking for awhile about this and understand there are impediments, but this is something I really would use.  I only use MC to stream now, and I can’t upsamble to DSD256 over DLNA.  I can do so when connected to the same DAC by USB and I can stream native DSD as DSD, but, over the network, I am limited to PCM in the DSP Studio.

Two thoughts:

(1).  It can be done over a network.  Roon, which I otherwise despise, can do it easily, and Audirvana does it, albeit with high CPU usage and some quirks, like moving on to the next track prematurely.  I understand that neither technically is DLNA, but I can’t imagine that it’s network architecture that would prevent JRiver from implementing if it were inclines to do so.

(2). Network setup appears to offer DSD upsampling as part of the process of setting up the server, but selecting DSD from the pick list doesn’t enable that upsampling.  If JRiver can’t or won’t get that option to list, it should be absent from the pick list or grayed out.

Also, I too would like the search function on JRemote2 to be universal rather than a search of the view then on the screen.  I keep the defunct eos app around just because it does offer a universal search function.

I also would love to have a single library that is used by all clients. I maintain and edit my database on a general purpose computer but stream from a separate, headless NUC.  After I add or edit on the PC with a monitor, I back up to OneDrive, remote access the NUC, and then restore the database to the NUC copy of MC.  (I have tried syncing libraries in the past, but that caused snags not relevant here.)  The ability for both installations just to access the same database would keep the work to a minimum and reduce the risks of making an error while moving between libraries.

You can do this already. More than one client can access the library at the same time, but only the first instance to open the library can edit it.
The library has to be available on the network and the secondary clients need to reload the library after it has been edited to keep it in sync.

Re: Particles

Particles is a great feature that is trully unsuable because it takes to much time to create each particle. Right now it takes too much time for each particle to be created, and writing down the beginning and end time of each one and adding them later it is a bit cumbersome.

The following feature will tackle this problem.

I suggest an "advanced toolbar for Particles" on the Display (and for songs under the control button area I guess) with the following buttons  "Start", "End", "(re)name, "Add", "Keywords"(customizable field or optional Library fields), and maybe -+ for speed; so that we can do it while playing the file. By pressing "Add" the particle can be added to library, or/and to a "new particles" playlist).
Additionally:
 - The stacks list does not appear if I right click a file in the playing now playlist
 - Ability to export them together with their playlist to portable devices/
 - Ability to back them up, or/and even add this information to the original file.

In the Startup Interface options (or somewhere else, like near the Search Bar), please add an option to "Remember previous search results". So for example, if I've searched for a specific album (to have it appear in my Library View), MC would start with that album already in my View, and the Search Bar pre-filled with my previous search.

This would more or less replicate the UI exactly as it was before quitting MC. Currently, the Search Bar contents (and obviously, the search results) are being cleared after a MC restart.

Why must the playlist order be alphabetically?  For example, if I have two playlists:

Best Songs
Max Party

Why can't I order them,

Max Party
Best Songs?

Maybe I can and I don't know how, but it seems like I should be able to drag and drop them in whatever order I choose or utilize some other way to order my playlist anyway I like.

Thanks!!

My number one request for MC27 would be for a total rethink on how views are managed. The interface for managing views for panel being my biggest gripe.
If I make a change to a Theater View view, I then have to manually make the same change in the media server views area and also potentially in standard view too. Also, having view configuration buried in options feels inconvenient.

My suggestions. These ideas conflict with each other:
  • throw all view config into standard view, views. Add tick boxes for "show in theater view", "show in panel"
  • have sections in the tree for theater view and panel. Keep the "add from standard view" tool, and add an action to link the view to its standard view original so that changes made in standard view flow through to its copies.

My other request would be some work on panel. It is a very static website. I would:

Make a react-material-design driven site, where the cards would be akin to the "tiles" of standard view; containing customizable info under each thumbnail. This extra info could be hideable with a global toggle too.

The list would have a resize slider that reflows the list as you resize.

The cards would also be actionable too. So I'd be able to add a file to a playlist or rate it from the list.

OSD facelift
OSD could use some facelift and I remember that Hendrik mentioned that he was working on with something on that department. One idea which I have written before would be enabling tooltip engine to be used for OSD now playing info screen. Created also a quick OSD mockup image as an example how it could look like compared to current OSD. I'm thinking that central area could be user modified with expression language for different media types

Default values for panes

In pane view, I would like to have the ability to define a default value selected when you first display the scheme.
For example in an image view if my first pane is filetype, i want to have by default "jpg" to be selected. That way, my default view display standard files and only in a few cases I can easily display the raw files.

What about real time updating the progress bar? Right now it gets updated every second and the "jump" length it does depends on the duration of the playing file or MCs the window size.

That change could probably bring two benefits:
First one is obvious: some more eye candy which I would like very much. As I'm using MC always maximized seeing the progress always jumping isn't nice to see.
Second one is not as obvious and perhaps not even possible, but anyway: a click at the progressbar often brings the playback position only somewhere near the point you have just clicked onto at least visually. The effect of course is bigger the shorter the playing file is. With a more constant updated progress bar would be able to reach every single point clicked to.

Perhaps this is a nice little touch which could be added to the "modernize the interface" section  ;)

- Playlist cover art :
I just found a crate in my basement full of old mixtapes (actuel cassettes  :)) I made as a teen. I used to draw my own mixtape covers, so I think it would be cool to recreate these mixtapes as playlists in MC with their own personalised cover art.

- Genre and Publisher/Label cover art :
We already have Artists and Composers, maybe it would be simple to implement.

New Playlist Import feature:
•   Imports text file “Playlist” array for query – w/limited key fields, i.e. [name], [artist], [album]
•   Results of “batch” import and query = playlist of “candidate” tracks [within local library] that meet the basic criteria (none, one, multiple)
•   way better than “manual” entry of each track in Smartlist query construct with separators, etc.
•   Simple to implement
•   Uses existing Library query functionality
This may allow for simple “basic universal” playlist import functionality - that sidesteps some of the problems associated with existing individual user library/storage architecture across multiple volumes - and resulting file path matching issues.

Ability to change subtitle renderer - lots of anime includes effects that need an external renderer and MC doesn't support it.

This would be a major benefit for Anime junkies like myself.

One feature request is, to have a way to save the backup library online, because sometimes as you lose maybe a hdd/replace or reinstall windows/others operating system and you don't have access to the backup you lose all the information, which is quite bad. Beacuse that information can mean years of work...

I actually like this idea but there's probably ways to do that now (e.g. setting up OneDrive on Windows and having MC use a folder to backup there, which auto-syncs).

Maybe in a feature addition to the MC27, can we have a change on how the image work in the tag window. Right now the only way to add image is by Custom(Image), but maybe extend this, we may be able to add also artist image on the tag window.
And other thing because when using the image there we can exclude the detail as the size/location and dimension of that image, which is stick all the time bellow.
And maybe... maybe, a chance to have overlay images?!.
PS
As this ideea/features I added some time ago, i'm trying again maybe some of you read and think about.
Thanks.

Well I was thinking at that because I hit a sittuation like that quite earlier and I wasn't be able to recover anything from my hdd. I know backup your files, but sometimes s**t happens...

Please include the function for "uploading to the cloud" in the playlist header.

Would love to be able to create a smartlist (group by artists then randomize by artist) like the one described here, that was never quite able to be made:

https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=98934.0

The missing piece in MC is that there is no way to add additional filters (ex: ratings) after the expansion and sorting of the artists.
