Diagnosing Crash Problems
« on: August 11, 2020, 10:37:15 am »

I'm going to add some diagnosis procedure here.  These may help narrow the source of the problem.

Does the program disappear?  That's a crash.  If it just freezes, that's a  hang.  Let us know which it is.  The thread is for crashes.  A hang can happen if the OS doesn't allow interaction with MC because it's too busy.

---------------

What version of MC are you using?

Have you configured Windows Defender?

Are you using any other antivirus.  If so, uninstall it, just to test.

Does it behave the same way on another machine?

Is the media on a local library?  Or is it on a NAS or USB drive?

What type of files?

What OS?  Is it up to date?

Are your drivers up to date?

Try turning off auto-import in the Tools menu.

What are you playing to?   How is it connected?  Test playback to another device.  Switch among audio via ASIO, HDMI, and Direct Sound.

The Windows Defender on my version looks nothing like the example in the first post (see under).  Not sure how to proceed to configure Defender

There is Windows 10 1903 build 18362.1082 on both machines.  Device Manager shows all in order

There are some files on the local drive and others on a (Lenovo) NAS

I'm finding with both machines (an i7 with 16Gb desktop and a i7 laptop also with 16Gb) that JR hangs between 10 and 30 mins.   The only way to get it back is to run Task Manager, stop the program and restart it

On both machines, the audio device is a USB connected DAC and there is only one driver

That's the Windows Defender Firewall, not the Windows Defender antivirus.
