New TV, MC for Android ... or Android TV?
« on: August 12, 2020, 08:24:41 pm »

Hi

Getting a new TV and like idea of having MC on it accessing audio and video files on  MC server.

Is this possible now? Is there a MC for Android TV (as opposed to MC for the mobile Android)? Will it work with the TV'S remote?

Will picture and sound quality be as good as a stand alone MC Windows PC?

Cheers!

JRiver for Android works on mobile and Android TV.  The interface is similar to Panel.

An NVIDIA Shield is a reasonably good solution.  JRiver runs on it.

Thanks Jim

How does that compare to a Windows machine with a 4k capable set up? Would I be sacrificing image quality for form factor convenience?

It depends on what the content is. If no upscaling is needed the Android should be good. The new Shield's upscaling is pretty good and I use it for all my streaming. I still can't get MC on the Shield to load my library though.

26.0.106 is available for the Shield.  Are you using it?
