Rubber Ducky? Or Pink Flamingo...
« on: September 26, 2020, 05:51:30 pm »

I'd like to find something we can send to people who've done something nice for others here over a long time.  Think of AndrewFG, for example.

I think he'd like a JRiver monogrammed rubber ducky, don't you?

Or would  a small pink Flamingo be in better taste?  He's British you know.

There are a number of others who share a lot here.

Maybe it should be something more sedate, like a box of #2 Ticonderoga pencils.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Pencils look good; a packet of Sharpies would be even better, I think!

When trying to show someone they're really appreciated, it's helpful if the gesture is really meaningful. I've found trinkets aren't appreciated, for a variety of reasons.

For employees, I've found something like a week off, or a weekend getaway for the employee and their spouse, hit the spot.  A nice bottle of scotch would be greatly appreciated by some (or if they're Australian, a "sufficient" quantity of beer).  In your case, for someone else, maybe something that's cheap for you but not for them: give them lifetime upgrades to MC.

Or it needn't cost any money at all.  Sometimes a really heartfelt card or note, or public recognition, can make a huge impact on people if it's judged to be sincere and not pro forma.  Emotional weight has a lot of value value. A trinket that doesn't cost much and has no emotional weight, has little value: A keychain with the company logo is worth a dollar.

I second wer on this one.

A Lifetime of MC upgrades would go a long way and/or perhaps a special badge next to their forum profile name.
I'm thinking of, for example, jmone who have made Swag of tools and Zybex who have made MCRatings.
There are many more of course, and the list could be quite long depending on the criteria.

Best wishes,

I'm not gonna lie, the rubber ducky would be very neat. ;D

This. It's meaningful and directly related to what their contributions are related to.

I think a JRiver coffee mug would be more universally useful.

I'll buy one if you offer it for sale!
