Please make waveform analysis for video at least an option. There's plenty of room next to the "skip analysed files" check box for a "skip video files" check box.
I found the waveform for video very useful. Ads and other inserts are often louder so skipping them precisely was simple as they showed up clearly. It also made it clear with whether the video in question was having a moody quiet spell or whether I needed to adjust the volume for the next 20 minutes.
In a 2 hour video on a 1920 x1080 screen there was sufficient resolution to be able to discern the above. I also regularly detach the video to my second monitor letting me view the waveform in the main MC window.
I have around 400k files in MC my field (waveform).jmd file is 550MB, that doesn't seem excessive with today's storage capacities. I didn't understand the complaint in the other thread regarding backing up. My library is backed up regularly, without the size of field (waveform).jmd causing any problems. Besides most backup software allows you to filter files you want to back up if it is that much of an issue.
Particles are great in theory but it's a fairly involved process and something only worth doing on videos you're definitely keeping and watching regularly. Waveform analysis takes seconds, requires little input from me and gives me enough information get what I want done.
The use of MakeMKV for automatic chapter markers is great, but only helps with physical media that is ripped. With the increase in digital-only media, the waveform offered a simple low-effort way of navigating a video.
I don't think temporarily changing media type is much of a solution. As I said, there is plenty of room next to the "skip analysed files" check box for a "skip video files" check box.
