Play Doctor anomaly picking list of songs
« on: March 14, 2021, 01:39:23 pm »

Using Play Doctor after first opening of Media Center 27.0.66
spawns incorrect results of playlist created.
I have Play Doctor options set to 50% Cloudplay and more variety, but
when I type in a song as reference like Fair Exchange by Be Bop Deluxe
I get maybe 3 songs that are in the playlist from the cloud.

If I stop the music and type in the exact same song I now get a list of songs
that reflect 50% setting for Cloudplay.
If I restart Media Center and type in another song like The Great Marsh by Camel
I get the same result of only 1 or 2 songs being pulled from Cloudplay.
Same problem if I set "Include files from Cloudplay" to 100%. Nothing from
Cloudplay on first attempt but all song from Cloudplay on second attemp.
Seems like some sort of bug with Play Doctor option "Include files from Cloudplay"
percentage on first attempt.

I see this tread was started in March with zero replies.  Is this forum still very active?  It was years ago.

I have used J River since the early days.  I use it to manage my music library.  I've bought new versions multiple times but had not upgraded in a while.  I paid for an MC 27 upgrade because I wanted to try Cloudplay, in particular in conjunction with Play Doctor.

I am having a similar issue.  It seems random.  About every 4th or 5th try Play Doctor will pull files from Cloudplay.  The rest of the time I only get results from my local library.  I can enter the exact same artist and get several times local only, then suddenly get files from Cloudplay, so it doesn't seem to be related to the search criteria that is used.

Cloudplay has been talked up for a while in J River emails ... I see it was recently part of the advertisement to upgrade to MC 28.  If it's going to be listed as a key feature, hopefully the moderators will respond and help get the basics working.

Could we please get this moved across to the MC28 board. I had the exact same problem with MC27 and it still happens with MC28

Sorry my post sounded a bit negative.  Cloudplay is really great - it's an interesting way to discover new tunes, and in some cases hear tunes that sound better than you've ever heard them before (thanks to those who upload the high rate stuff).  I just want it to work correctly with Play Doctor.

One more suggestion ... can Cloudplay search across all metadata and if it finds a banned tag (like Christmas) don't play it ... I get a lot of holiday music even though I've set filters.

Your post was fine.  I agree that there is a problem.

I reproduced this once, but then when I'm trying in the debugger now it's working fine.

I open the program and right away paste something into the Play Doctor search and hit enter.

It's been working properly for a while now.  I'll keep looking.  Let me know if you have any other clues.  Thanks.

I think I was able to reproduce the failures and I've got a fix going into the next build.  Let us know.  Thanks.

Good to hear, thanks Matt.  My only clue would be that my internet service is via radio from a nearby tower (no cable based service is available where I live).  I have 20Mb service, but my speedtest ping is usually around 30-40ms.  So possibly if Play Doctor doesn't get a response fast enough?

And by next build ... do you mean I have to purchase MC28 to get the fix?

It won't be fixed in MC27.  Once we get very far into a new major version, we stop working on the old one.

Ugh.  The only reason I bought MC27 was for this feature.  The old version I had did everything else I wanted.  So known errors that are just 1 version back are ignored?

Thanks Aardvark, I appreciate it.  I'm surprised by the lack of follow-up from the J River team.  I guess I need to buy another license, even though the only reason I bought the last license was to get this feature (which *should* have been mature by version 27).
