7. NEW: DLNA conversion to DSD (dsf 1x).
8. Changed: Changed implementation of DMS TV channel playback and recording.  It should behave much better, in particular when playing a channel that is currently recording.
9. Fixed: If MC was started connected to a library server and the user switched to the main library, there were multiple superfluous error boxes popped up.

27.0.58 (1/25/2021)

11. Changed: When auto-sizing columns, width for sort arrows is included.
12. Changed: Made the analyzer fall off faster (especially in high resolution mode).
13. Fixed: The video analyzer could sometimes take a long time.
14. Fixed: Upon shutdown/restart/logout and the Apple menu quit, MC will do a graceful shutdown (tells DLNA renderers that it's closing).
15. Changed: The Apple menu Quit terminates all of the program when in Media Server mode. File->Exit leaves Media Server running.

27.0.57 (1/21/2021)

1. Fixed: Drawing window size on retina monitors when dragging the screen, especially visible on the mini player view.
2. NEW: Some optimization of the window size and positioning code.

4. NEW: AviSynth Filter is added to the white list for "video post processing" filters.
5. Changed: Improved the DSP Studio analyzer.
6. NEW: DTS parsing gets the proper number of channels.
7. Fixed: APL files were not always working properly for the last few builds.
8. Changed: When building the list of items for a grouping, the values are formatted (before it would show an integer when grouping by date, but now it will show a proper date).
9. NEW: The smartlist editor has a rule "contains full word" to put a hat (^) in front of the word.
10. Changed: Improved threading decisions for image drawing, greatly speeding up the Analyzer DSP and other drawing tasks.
11. Fixed: The message that files will be renamed to avoid collisions is no longer shown when just updating the database.
12. NEW: Added a match mode to the ListFind(...) expression function to switch between partial matching and full matching.
13. Faster: Optimized the way the analyzer works to make processing faster.
14. Fixed: Manually editing a DMS TV channel did not work (because a list of tuners were presented, instead of a list of devices);
15. Fixed: MP4 files could report double the proper length in some cases.
16. Changed: When removing the played tracks from Playing Now, it now removes the just played track as well.
17. NEW: DMS TV channels on the same device can be mass-edited, to change device, IP Address, and/or port.  This is useful when one needs to replace a broken tuner device with a new one of the same type, or when the IP address of a device changes.
18. Fixed (possibly): High GPU usage after watching and stopping a TV show that was being recorded (may need to repeatedly watch and stop watching to reproduce).
19. Changed: Bookmarking will always clear if we reach the end of the file (before with cross-fading on it could save a value near the end).
20. Changed: Right aligning the tag saving statusbar text so the user customized text stays visible.
21. NEW: The display view window position is reset when doing "Reset window position settings...".
22. Changed: Beyonwiz U4 device is white-listed as a supported DMS TV device. Hope it works!
23. NEW: Added a "Reset Perc Data" button on TV setup wizard and EPG setup wizard, to allow users to reset when their Perc Data account, in particular the lineup info, has changed.
24. Fixed: After downloading from library server, the file could be incorrectly removed from the server's library.
25. NEW: Made stopping after a number of tracks work with DLNA.
26. Fixed: Picking no options in the Rename, Move, & Copy dialog could result in the files actually getting renamed to <No Change>.
27. Fixed: Loading and saving VST3 presets could misbehave.
28. NEW: Experimental code for detaching the display window on Macs. Needs work but basically usable.

27.0.50 (1/7/2021)

1. Changed: Made date imported editable like last played (instead of clear only).
2. Fixed: Crash when using a remote with Theater View.
3. Changed: Switched the equalizer to these frequencies: 31.25,62.5,125,250,500,1k,2k,4k,8k,16k.
4. NEW: VST3 effects save and load their states.
5. NEW: Added 3 channel to the VST3 output (L, R, C).
6. Fixed: When playing a DMS TV channel while the show was being recorded, the playback went to live time instead of program start time (or recording start time).
7. Changed: The shuffle at the end of the playlist when shuffle mode is on will only fire if playback is set to advance to the first track again.
8. NEW: Added the save and load buttons to VST3 plugins.

27.0.49 (1/5/2021)

1. Fixed: When recording consecutive shows on the same channel on a DMS tuner, the later recordings might include data for previous shows.
2. Possibly fixed: When recording consecutive shows on the same channel on a DMS tuner, some recording might end up fail (zero byte recorded).

Media Center crashes when I try to play DSD 128 file. MC is configured to transform DSD 128 into DSD 64 and it worked fine in previous versions. Now it simply crashes.

Playing to what device? What version of MacOS, what architecture?
Where are you setting the conversion? Output format in DSP studio?
It works for me, just checked this build on a M1 playing to a iFi Nano DSD Dac 2xDSD to 1xDSD DoP set as output format in DSP Studio.

Ok some more info ...

It is Mac Mini M1 with Big Sur V. 11.2.3.
It is connected to Benchmark DAC 3 B with USB 2.0 cable.
The conversion has been set in Option -> Audio -> Settings -> Bit Streaming and here I set DSD and in Custom I set Up to DSD64.

So DSD64 is playing ok but the conversion from DSD128 to DSD64 produces crash with this window:

It shouldn't crash but it shouldn't play the DSD128 either from what I can tell.
That option just says bitstream DSD up to DSD64, it's not a DSD to DSD conversion. If the source material is above DSD64 then if DSP studio is off, you wouldn't get playback unless your DAC can handle 705.6khz PCM.
You'd need to set the Output format in DSP Studio to resample the 705.6khz to something the DAC can handle.

I set DSP studio to resample 705.6k to 352.8 and the DSD128 plays fine.

Also, if you wouldn't mind uploading the entire crash dump you showed a screenshot of that might be useful in tracking down the crash you are seeing.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for investing your time in dealing with this issue that I have.

In DSP I reduced the freq. to 352,8 KHz as you proposed, but that did not change anything: it is still crashing. Here is the log file ...

No problem, would you please include the apple crash dump? When the dialog with it comes up you can do
Select All (apple-A)
then copy and paste it into a post here.

Also, just a guess, under the audio options, if you haven't already, enable the SoX resampler.
Thanks.

SoX has been always in usage.

This is a dump (I copied to the pages).

Thanks.
Where it's crashing doesn't make much sense to me, just in some general purpose drawing routines in the OS.

Would you mind trying the Intel only version posted in this forum, it will run under Rosetta.
It's built with an older compiler that avoids some threading issues from new versions of Xcode of which I thought we had found all of but perhaps not.

Bob,

Where I live it is night and I am going to bed now. Tomorrow I will do that what you proposed and then I will post the result here.

Hi Bob,

New day, new try ...

I just did what you proposed ... I installed Intel version of MC27 on the same Mac Mini M1. I kept the old version (Silicon). Interestingly, the settings have been automatically overtaken from the Silicon version so I did not have anything to configure. When I tried to play a file which contains DSD128, it crashed in the same way as in a previous case.

Do you need dumps ?

Thanks, in a way that's good news.
I assume you are certain the DSD128 is not corrupted? What are the contents of the compression field, bitdepth and sample rate fields?
Can you send me a backup of your library? Email it to bob (at) jriver (dot) com.

The file is ok. I know that because the same file works fine in my another system, which consists of MC27 on Windows and DAC (Pioneer U-05)  that supports not only DSD64 but also DSD128. Therefore on this system is not necessary to perform DSD128 to DSD64 conversion.

Bemchmark DAC 3 though supports only DSD64 DoP and that is where I have a problem.

The file (one song), that I am using for these tests, is 248 MB large. What do you mean to send you a backup of Library ?

In MC, File->Library->Backup Library.
This makes a zipfile of your database and settings (but not media).
It makes it easier to reproduce problems we can't get to happen with our setup and settings.

I tried already with several different files. I do not know how swapping DACs might help ?

I have to add that this DSD conversion worked, some couple of months ago. Unfortunately I do not know which MC version I was using at that time ...

it would have crashed but your setting must have been different because that custom setting for bitstreaming has never done DSD to DSD conversion to my knowledge. Note that any DSD conversion must go like this DSD->PCM->DSD because there is no direct DSD conversion.

In your Audio settings, try turning off integer mode and exclusive mode and see if that makes any difference.
If not, please post a Log from MC.

This is MC log without integer and without exclusive right. It crashed again

I did the same configuration on a Win10 version of MC. It works there but my Pioneer DAC shows, when I play DSD 128, that it is converted into PCM 352. That is the point of telling DSP to actually do that.It seems though that the stream is not converted into DSD64 back again.

So, going back to MAC version of MC, I changed the configuration of DSP to convert to 192 KHz instead of 352 KHz. And everything is working fine except that even when I play DSD64 it converts it into PCM 192. And that is not good ...

The windows behavior is what I'd expect, like I said that custom setting in Audio->Bitstreaming limits the max rate to bitstream, it doesn't do conversion back to DSD64 for out of range material.

You COULD turn that off and set the encoding in DSP studio to DSD64 Dop. Then everything will go as DSD64.

I'll see if I can get a crash from your library. It's odd that it crashes just after ending an auto-import run.
You might try temporarily turning those off.

Bob,

Do you mean the option: Run auto-import in a background from Library and Folders ?

Go ahead and try that first.
I was thinking of removing the imports from the Tools->Import->Configure Auto Import so if disabling the option you mentioned doesn't work, try that.

One more thing to try. I imported your library and added a dsd128 file to it to test, it worked HOWEVER I see that you have memory playback enabled. Please try with that disabled.

I think I found the issue, it's in a drawing routine! MC is trying to put up a message box for the unplayable file and that causes the crash. I'm not sure why in this particular case but it's repeatable with your settings at any rate. It will take a bit to fix. In the meantime it should work if you use DSP studio output format to set it to a playable sample rate.

Bob,

Ok I will leave it then here. Thanks a lot for helping me with this issue.

For me it is not a big deal. I have some, maybe 20 DSD128 albums, but they are not the albums among my favorites. Surely I am not listening them every day. So I can live without them. It was though important for me to have the capability in my main system to hear everything I have. And DSD128 files, which are originally published as such, sound really great. By using JRiver DSP it is basically possible but DSD128 on a DAC, which supports only DSD64, it became a challenge. So I am looking forward to the version with this fix ...

The issue with DSD conversion works now - no crashes. Now I can play DSD128 but only as PCM 24-192. It is not possible to convert that into DSD64 - or is it possible ?

I would like though to report another probable bug. It refers to Recent Albums View. When I configure a rule (see Pic) it does not work: instead of showing me only albums that I imported into MC in the last 8 weeks, it shows me all the albums that I have in a library. I assume that this is a bug because when I do the very same rule configuration in MC under Windows, it works just fine.

Currently the only way to convert DSD128 into DSD64 is to convert everything via output format in DSD studio.
That is true for all versions of MC. Probably something that should be added in a future version.

Your recent albums view will also reflect any tagging changes, I have not see the issue you describe without those changes. You might look at recently imported instead.

I looked at recently imported and the situation is the same. When I apply the rule nothing happens. When I do the same thing in MC for Windows it works.

Where are the tracks actually stored?

The tracks are stored on an external disc. Actually I have two external discs where PCM (FLAC) is on one disc and the DSD and HiRes PCM are two different folders on another disc.

What are the filesystems of the external disks?
Are they always mounted?

Under BigSur the file system is: APFS. Partition is: GUID Partition Map.

The discs are always mounted.

It doesn't seem like there is anything here that might be an issue.
I have my files on the internal apfs volume and I'm not seeing this. I'm not sure what else we can check.

Should this entirely fix the sleep issues I was having where it would never let my computer screen sleep?

It did for me.
The fix Apple made in 11.4 made it so the workaround could be removed.

this particular funny behavior comes to my mind:

Remote cross reference, bug left appears somewhere else? Maybe?

Seems to be working like it used to before the big issues began...cheers

I'm still on 27 because I'm waiting for optimization of the mac version before I want to upgrade. When I scroll through my songs in mc27 windows i notice both cpu and gpu working and it runs almost completely smooth even though the gpu and cpu is ageing by now, while on mac only the cpu gets used while scrolling, I'm still convinced if mc started offloading the cpu with gpu/hw acceleration for the drawing on the mac build like on windows it would be a lot smoother. I know I've mentioned this before but I am convinced the hardware is completely capable of being able to scroll through the songlist without it being an almost stopmotion experience. I'm running on an m1 mac mini with 4k scaled to 1080p, normally i'd use 1440 but then MC lags even worse. Here's how it looks to me, notice the latency between i scroll and it starts scrolling on the screen:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEXKYx2p590

I'm not trying to be rude, I love MC and I want to have the best experience while using it.

27.8.89 still unstable on my M1 MacBook Pro.  watching TV is unreliable and freezes and crashes MC.  Waiting for improvements before upgrading
