Hi,
New user (or soon will be - probably/hopefully).
I listen to music. No other use.
Have spent some time with settings.
1. The Display window cannot be turned off? Top part of Tree useful so I don't want to close Tree. Display window is an extreme annoyance/distraction. I don't ever want cover art. [It's likely wrong anyway for a given rip. I am not even online.] Can't see option!
2. Related to above - Uncheck cover art? Can't see option!
3. Get rid of Action Center? I can use Menus for Actions. Once set up I don't need Actions anyway. Can't see option!
4. Skinless? Can't see option!
Did I miss settings please. If not - then please assimilate argument for User choice.
Thank you

4. Skinless? Can't see option!

Unfortunately not possible. Media Center uses its own system for window drawing and skinning and it has to have a skin to work, so there is no "skinless" option. I doubt such a thing would be possible and even considered by JRiver, I'd be surprised if it was.

Are you able to help with [toggle/disable] Display / Cover Art / Action Centre?

The action window, no, but you can minimise that, and there's a tick box in options you can set so that MC remembers the minimised state across restarts.

The little display window cannot be turned off, but, it will not be shown if you have a tab open showing the "playing now" view. The tab only needs to be open, you don't need it to be visible, only that the tab exists is enough.

Explore Tools > Options > General and both Behavior and Features.  You can change some things, not all.

Thanks marko for the tips - I don't recall seeing a tick box in Options for keeping things minimised - but I will go back and check ... I'm getting used to Playing Now - it's not intuitive after being a fb2k user but that's my problem - I shall endeavour to watch for the Playing Now tab and keep it live.

Might I say - why do Display, Cover Art and Action Window have to be *forced* on users. Surely not a big deal to let people not look at superfluous distractions? I get that some people like them. But why not choice?

Thank you

I have spent a long time exploring settings before posting my query.
Have I missed settings that allow me to disable Cover Art, Display, Action Window.
If not, please consider my case along with anybody else who doesn't want to look at things they have no need for - especially Display windows displaying "art" which may be wrong for a given music file etc.
Thanks again

The display window/panel can not be removed but it can be hidden - If you look between the Top Panel that displays the CoverArt and the lower panel, where the details are there should be a narrow horizontal line with up and down arrow heads on it - clicking on the up arrow head will close/hide the upper panel and make the lower panel larger.

Have a look at Options > Startup > Startup Interface...
"Last Location" is good. If you have three tabs open, with tab#1 active, and tab#3 at "Playing Now", for example, then, after closing the program, those same three tabs will be open, and you'll never need to worry about that little display window again, in theory :)

set "Mode" to Standard View if it's not already, and then, the next two...

They are a little confusing depending on how you're wired...
Me? I would expect that if I unticked the option that states "At Startup > Show Action Window", then anytime I launched the program, the Action Window would be minimised, but, nooooo.... By default, and before these options were a thing, regardless of the visible state of the tree, and the minimised state of the Action Window when the program was closed, they would always be opened when the program launched. With those unticked, if the tree and action window are hidden/minimised at exit time, they will remain so on next launch, but if visible at exit time, they will also be visible on next launch, which I find a tad counter-intuitive, but, hey-ho :)

I shall endeavour to watch for the Playing Now tab and keep it live.
Final wee tips for now... If you follow the startup options above, and that works for you, then you shouldn't need to 'watch for it' at all. That said, sometimes, tabs can get a little bit out of control. Here are some things that can help with that...

Middle click on an item in the tree to open that item in a new tab.
Middle click on a tab will close that tab, regardless of it being the active tab or not.
Under View there is an entry called "Load/Save" view. This is great. When you arrive at a decent working set of tabs that you like to have at startup, go here and save the view. Then, one day when you find that MC launches and all your open tabs are a mess, you can just go back there and load the view you saved, immediately putting you back to those favourite tabs you saved, one of which, of course, will be Playing Now ;)

Thanks - Yes - I clocked this. Already used to good effect.

Yes - unchecking "Show Action Window" does not prevent it showing. Both odd and annoying if you don't want it!

Brilliant - not something I would learn early in evaluation - if I persevere this will be useful - printed off for reference - Thank you

marko have you seen my separate post/thread about intermittent pauses at end of track. Consistent place just before tracks ends. Hangs for a few moments then resumes. Almost certainly to do with playing from memory. Can't get rid of problem with settings. I need playing from memory! I can hear a clear SQ delta. My system is good and I play flac from Optane PCIe AIC > upsample to only 176.4 in Sox (no DSP) > Play from Memory > ASIO > Dante DVS. Thanks

Yup. Seen it, gave it a speed read, no lightbulb moment happening for me, sorry. Do not despair though, you have some extremely knowledgeable people assisting in that thread at the moment.
