3D support in 2021
« on: August 02, 2021, 09:21:01 am »

Hi all,

Quick questions, hopefully. Appreciate that 3D is considered dead (despite the fact that 3D Blu-rays are still being produced), but....
1) Are there any video cards that still support (AMD?) or have solutions for outputting stereo 3D?
2) Given that many TVs now support 120hz, are there any kits that could be used to allow them to used to display 3d (i.e. sync active glasses?)

I have projector that support 3D beautifully, just seems a shame not to be able to watch it in other rooms.

Thanks in advance.

I just replaced my 2016 OLED so it has died here at home.

As far as outputting 3D from a computer to your projector you can use side by side (SBS) or top over bottom (ToB) from the computer. If you are using 4k then there is no loss of resolution. This bypasses the need for a specific driver.

1) ppl say AMD still output frame pack 3D (i cannot confirm that as i am on nvidia)

You can use series 10 nvidia with older drivers ... or newer card with modified drivers ... or output 3D in top/bottom as rechead suggested (madvr can take frame pack 3D file and output it in ToB)

2) no solution exists to my knowledge as Nvidia ditch their 3d Vision.

My LG E6 is showing color burn already ... still have B6 as back up. After that ... its projectors only.

Unless Avatar sequels can revive 3D lol

I bought a backup C6 2016 LG just to have another set that supports 3D.  The two C6 sets I have are closing in on 4K hours (one is closer to 5K).

I've not yet noticed burn/dimming on my sets, but curious what "color burn" is - you mean image burn?

I also play a significant amount of gaming on one of my C6 sets and burn in has thankfully not been a problem.

-

I have been fiddling around with 3D on my Valve Index VR head set using BigScreen.  Unfortunately I have only figured out TAB or SBS, and at full 4K resolution to not lose detail, it is too choppy, and that is with an nVidia 3090 RTX and 4Ghz CPU.  Maybe the software will improve.

There are alternatives to BigScreen so maybe time to start trying them out, as I have a huge amount of 3D Blu Ray movies (and continue to import them).

Hi,

I would also like to know, which Hardware i need to buy....
MVC 3D only works with Madvr High Quality now. My Intel PC Stick (Intel HD 505) can't handle this anymore.
I know there are alternativ Programs (Powerdvd 19 - works nice), but i would like to use MC for this.
I also read somewhere that AMD GPU's can handle it, but got no exact Information.
How strong should the GPU be, to handle Madvr High Quality?

And i must say 3D on TV (55') :(, but with a Beamer (120') ;D it's very NICE!

Thanks for every Information i can get...  :)

Greetings
Robert

I can't speak to AMD or Intel.

I've been using nVidia GPUs for some time now.  While nVidia has removed 3D support from their drivers, if you have a capable display, you can tell madVR to output top-and-bottom 3D (or side-by-side).  On a 4K display that supports 3D SBS or TAB modes, this will result in two 1080p images for top-and-bottom so you don't sacrifice resolution.

if you need MVC support, either you run older nVidia drivers (which may not work on newer GPUs) or you need to check and see if AMD or Intel still support it in their drivers.

I would expect that on your Intel NUC device you could possibly configure madVR HQ to output TAB or SBS, it'll result in two images, and then assuming your display supports it, you can turn on 3D and it'll work.  you can configure madVR to make it far less resource hungry and probably get it to run on modest hardware and in Media Center, set up a Zone for just 3D with that configuration.

Can you tell me the best settings for MVC 3D with Intel HD 505 GPU.
I'm not very familiar with Madvr.
Would be nice.
Thanks.

[Tools]-[Options]->[Video]

There

[General Video Settings]->[Video Mode] select Red October HQ

Once that selected [Enable 3D Vluray and MKV 3D decoding] appear ... check it

Then choose [... Open MadVR Settings (Advanced)...]

MasVR setting window will pop ... following will concern that MadVR setting window

Under [devices] you will see your screen/projector ... select it

under [devices]->"your display"->[properties] ... option [3D format] choose "Auto" if HD 505 actually support 3D MVC ... other wise you need to choose "top-and-bottom" (if your TV/projector is 4K ... this option gives same quality as MVC) or "side-by-side"

under [devices]->"your display"->[display modes] ... [list all display modes madVR may switch to] ... this you need to know what your display and GPU support ... for 3D MVC 1080p23 is needed ... if doing top-bottom inK, will need 2160p23

under [rendering]->[stereo 3D] ... check [enable stereo 3D playback]

check when playing 2D - disable os stereo 3d
check when playing 3d - enable
check [restore is stereo 3d ...]

that should do it ... if have problems, ask away (i have not done setting in ages ... so i might have missed something)

Hi tij,

sorry for the late response, but it didnt work. The 3D Picture stutters as it did before.
I think the Intel HD 505 onboard Graphic Card is to slow for Red October HQ.

But now i have a new Problem. I build up a new Server with an AMD Ryzen 2200G CPU/GPU (Vega 8 ).
It can play 3D MVC. Tested it with PowerDVD and it worked.
Did the same in MC27 with the settings you posted. It  started the Movie and the Beamer switched to 3D BUT the Picture was still 2D?
And when i stopped the movie the Beamer switched back to 2D BUT the Desktop reacted very slow.
Could it be that there is a Refresh Rate Problem when switching from 3D to 2D.
I think that's Driver related because this happens with PowerDVD too.

Has anyone here some hints for me how i can solve this problem?
Would be nice. Thanks.

I think the AMD Ryzen 2200G can handle Red October HQ.

That could be copy protection.

I tested an 3D MVC MKV Video with the same result. So copy Protection should not be the problem i think.
And i tried an Over/Under and SBS File. How can i activate 3D with this two file formats?
