startup interface location not remembered
« on: September 26, 2021, 08:26:33 pm »

Tried to change the Options/startup interface in Media Center 28.0.66 to
anything other than last location and it doesn't work.
Uses last location no matter what it is set to.
Works fine if I run Media Center 27.
Even tried closing Media Center in task manager but still doesn't
work.

Are you running MC as a client?

I only have it installed on my only Windows 10
computer. And this is the first time I have seen
this problem.
The MODE is set to standard. And like I said running
version 27 has no problem.
If I change location interface setting to anything different, close
MC28. then reopen, it does not change to new setting.
Then if I end MC28 task in manager then reopen MC28, it changes
to the new location.

Since this is still not working in 28.080 I have been doing
a lot of testing. If I have Media Server start with windows I
have the problem with Options startup interface. Never goes
to where I have it set.
If I tell media center to do nothing at startup, the interface
works fine after Windows loads and I run Media Center.
So something with windows 10 and Media center
at startup are having issues. I tried disabling about half the
items in task manager startup page but no change.

I started media center 27 and it worked fine when starting
media center server with windows 10. Kind of looks like something
has changed from media center 27 to 28 that affects Media center
startup interface when you start media center server with
Windows 10, at least with my computer. Any suggestion
are appreciated. This is the only computer I have Media Center on.

This sounds like other recent posts where I explained the steps I follow when I encounter a stubborn setting issue.  Maybe it is unique to my setup, but I doubt it, so I will state it again here.

If a setting change requires you to close and restart MC to take effect, you have to make sure you close all MC server instances too for the setting to "stick".  Sometimes MC server will still be running even if you don't see it among the system tray icons, so be sure to go to Task Manager and kill any instances you see there.  When you re-launch, your setting change should hold.

This scenario has been very consistent over the years... I forget to close out MC server, and the setting change I made is ignored.  I then immediately redo the setting change following the steps above, and now it holds... very repeatable.  It is a bit tedious to have to do this every time, but at least it accomplishes the task. This workflow should not be required IMO... maybe the JRiver team can address this.

Hopefully this helps with your issue.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried all of that to no avail. Main problem I have is
when I have MC server start with Windows 10. I have MC startup location set to last used and
this works fine while computer is on.  I can even shut down MC server, restart MC and it goes
to last location I was at. But when I shut down computer and turn it back on it does not go to
that same last location. For a while it would open disk drive area and I never told it to use that as a last location, ever. Finally got it to keep opening to video page even though I selected last location of audio. And it does go to audio page if I close MC and reopen. But when I reboot computer it again opens to Video page. I have tried shutting down server, then rebooting computer with same problem. No idea where MC is getting that info on what page
to open.
