Crash during import
« on: October 31, 2021, 02:43:54 am »

Error during auto import: JRiver hangs and crashes after importing about 150 titles.  On the next attempt, this happens after e.g. 200 titles, then again at 120 or 340. This can be repeated at will.
There are 500 GB of audio on the internal hard drive, 70% of which is AIFF, 10% Flac, 20%mp3 and others.

The same music can be imported flawlessly on a Mac and on a Windows computer!
Current Debian and JRiver 28.0.79.  JRiver  Linux is unusable. Any Tips?

See if you can find out which format is causing the problem by importing one at a time.

I can import files of all formats individually: mp3, m4a, Mac, Flac, aiff, aif
But it's not realistic to add every single one of the 32,250 audio files manually.

I have already activated the creation of a log file. But because the programme crashes completely, there is no log file when I restart.

I have emailed the log files.
JRiver is still unusable because it first hangs when importing music, then crashes.
However, all the music has been imported into JRiver on the Mac without any problems. So I don't think it's because of a faulty file.

I had a similar (but not the same) issue a little while back and it was due to the Debian Linux Desktop I was using which was Cinnamon.
Once I changed to LXDE the problem disappeared. I never found the reason but there was something about the Cinnamon desktop that broke parts of the import process and crashed MC.

Maybe worth trying a different Desktop?

Thanks for the hint. I have tried LXDE and also Mate, but with the same result: the import breaks, the computer freezes and only a reboot gets the system working again.
JRiver is unusable for me and I switch back to Mixxx and Kodi.

I only suggested that to see if we could identify a file type that causes the problem.

You don't have to do it manually.  Set up auto import and add one filetype at a time until you find a crash.

28.0.80 is here:  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,131117.0.html

I think you're seeing a freeze (program appears unresponsive) and not a crash (program disappears).  Right?  If so, leave it alone and let it run.

Turn off audio analysis, cover art lookup, etc.
