Blu-ray Problems
« on: November 15, 2021, 09:31:50 am »

Long time JRM user here (since v13).  This is 100% reproducible on v28, v27, &v26.  If blu-ray menu option set to "on", and "full screen (display view, theater view, etc.)" option set to anything other than "display #1 (default)", doesn't work, get black screen and jrm becomes unresponsive.  Does however work fine when set to default display.

Not sure why I've not got a reply yet, could be I didn't add enough info.

These are all .iso files created from multiple .mkv files using software that adds the menu into the bluray iso.  Each mkv file is an episode in a tv series.  Again, the bluray menu works fine as long as i'm using the default/primary display.  But when i try to use on another display just get a black screen with no sound and have to kill the jrm process.

I purchased v26 primarily because of the bluray menu functionality but at the time ran into the same problem.  Recently purchased v28 thinking things might have been improved.

No idea.  Sorry.

What happens if you rip an entire disc to an MKV file?

What software adds the menu?

You could try using our new JRVR video renderer, which is a lot more flexible when it comes to issues like moving between screens.
Additionally, a few improvements to Blu-ray Menu support will be in a build soon, which might help with this. I was however not able to reproduce this issue right now over here.

using dvdfab to create the bluray iso from multiple mkv episode files

for whatever reason i'm able to get this to work now on v25 on a secondary display but still not able to on any newer version

wondering if this has something to do with multiple jrm versions installed?  Could it be that the java portion of this would only work for one version if multiple installed?

i've checked and rechecked all settings applicable and all versions are configured the same way.

Just installed 25, 26, & 28 on another machine, laptop with a secondary monitor attached.  v25 was installed first and same issue, can not play bluray iso with menus on secondary display.  Then installed the other also have same issue.  All 3 versions work fine when playing from primary monitor.

Would someone please test this out on their end cause i find it hard to believe it's an environment issue at this point.

Both machines i have are win10 pro.

Could you use MC28 to rip with MakeMKV, to see what happens?

Not sure i follow...  I have the standalone MakeMKV program, are you saying there is a function inside JRM that utilizes this?  Besides to my knowledge you can't get menus in a mkv file, am i wrong?

I would really just like to get someone to test out on their end and tell me it works or not.  Any iso Bluray with menu will do.

I've already commented above that I was not able to reproduce, but as I also mentioned there are some improvements coming soon that may have helped with this as well, hence being the reason it works. Or its something specific to how you do things not documented here.

Okay, well i've attached a log file.  Could you please tell me if you see anything in there that might be the culprit?  Thank you.

Here's another log but this time on the primary display with no problems.  I've been comparing both logs with notepad++ to see if there is anything glaring but not really sure what i'm looking at.

Update:

by changing from red october standard to red october HQ problem solved.  Had to do this to v26 & v28, v25 still on standard.

Any ideas why?

New problem now will post in a new thread:  with "play blu-ray discs using menus" set to "on" causes any bluray movies without menus to crash jrm.

"play blu-ray discs using menus" set to "on" causes any bluray movies without menus to crash JRM.

would like to avoid being asked every time whether or not to use menus and just have it use menus "if available".

most of my bluray movies don't have menus but a few do.  Was surprised to see JRM ask if I want to use menus on blurays with no menus.

Don't know if there is anything that can be done about this but thought i'd ask.

thanks.

Just discovered this is not a problem with v25, only v26 and v28.  v25 will play a bluray movie without menus when the option to play menus is set to on without crashing JRM.

also worth noting due to another issue posted regarding a similar issue, v25 is using standard red october, v26 and v28 are using HQ.

Hendrik recently posted that there should be Blu-ray menu support improvements soon, especially if you use the new Red October JRVR in MC28. You might give JRVR a try now and see if it works any better.

I have never heard of a commercial Blu-ray disc without at least a rudamentary menu logic that would just start playback of the movie on the disc. Nevermind "most" in anyones collection.
I don't believe we require a menu either way, but the disc would require a valid Blu-ray structure, even if the Blu-ray info files then simply instruct to play the main movie.
