I am currently using youtubetv for my tv needs. It works well but I would like to lessen my bill. I use firestick and Netflix ,amazon etc. I only use the youtubetv for the local stations. I don't want to climb on the roof to install an antenna, and we are 70 miles from the tv stations that are considered local. We have a small cable provider with limited cable television. Approximately 20 channels. The channels are all SD and there is no box.

My question is this: if there is no box and all you do is screw the cable into the the television should that also work with a tuner card ie clear qam.

If someone could help on this matter I would really appreciate it. Cable subscription for TV is only 25/month. I would like to buy the Hauppage WinTV-quad and use the PC (MediaCenter) to DVR etc Will this work?

Are you sure your cable channels are QAM? Usually SD channels are Analog, which is not QAM. When you do a channel scan with it connected directly to the tv, does it tell you they are analog or digital?

I have not tried Clear QAM for many years since my cable TV company stopped using it.  The last time I tried it was working fine.

I had users reporting it working, and users reporting having issues.  I lost track of them.  Then they all quiet down.  Haven't heard anything about Clear QAM for many years, either because people no longer have such services, or they are enjoying it quietly.  Not sure how many are still in the latter category.

That is true.  But we are talking about cable.  Some small area cable operators might conceivably still use analog, but they would then have to convert the OTA digital signal to analog before serving it to their customers.  I wonder if anyone would still do that.
