Network Devices not showing [Solved]
« on: January 18, 2022, 06:04:28 pm »

I am running the latest v28 of JRiver. My network devices have stopped being shown under the playing now menu. I have uninstalled and reinstalled JRiver but no change. I'm not sure when this happened but certainly not an issue before. My network settings also haven't changed. Previously my Sonos components, television, phones and ipad and Beyonwiz devices all showed.
Any help appreciated.

Windows 11?

Could be antivirus or firewall.

Did you check firewall settings?

Did you configure Windows Defender?

You could try AndrewFG's DMRA program, but you may not get good results if the firewall or antivirus are blocking.

Thanks Jim for replying.
I use Norton 360 not Windows Defender and Media Center is allowed.
I tried DMRA program but it doesn't find any Media Renderers. All my devices show in Windows Explorer.

Are you running a typical dual band (2.4Ghz / 5GHz) Wi-Fi network router?
I don't know about your particular devices, but I have found that some of mine are only discoverable by MC when the MC server is connected on the 2.4GHz band.  The band is not a MC setting, but is a choice in Windows that can sometimes change without your intervention.  Granted though this may not be your issue if everything shows up in the server's Windows Explorer.

Whitebear DMRA (with firewall set to allow it; also try Run as Administrator but typically not necessary) normally detects all DLNA renderers, including the MC server PC itself.  If it does not, then that suggests something has changed outside of MC.

Do you have a Windows update waiting to be downloaded or installed or restart pending?

As a test, uninstall Norton.

Many thanks for the replies.
I have a wired ethernet. No Windows updates pending.
Tried uninstalling Norton but unfortunately no change.

I have no experience using wired ethernet at home, but here are some other thoughts...

- In Whitebear DMRA, cancel out of the initial discovery window after it finishes.  Then check the box in upper right hand corner "Use Windows Discovery", then tap "Select a Media Renderer..." to repeat the discovery search.  I never found this necessary, but maybe give it a try.

- For further internal checks, in MC left panel, have a look at:
Services & Plug-ins > Reporter > Net

Services & Plug-ins > Media Network > ...
You should see 5 servers running and may glean some Info from each of them, including their Activity Logs.
In particular, the Device Discovery Server should be pretty active.  Confirm that its listed Port (typically 1900) is open through your firewall.

- Another external-looking-in check (but using Wi-Fi), assuming both JRiver Media Center 28 Service and JRiver Media Center 28 windows program are running:
Is the MC server (and therefore library) discoverable by any phone player apps (MC Panel, JRemote2, MO 4Media, BubbleUPnP App, etc.)?
(BTW I find the BubbleUPnP App is particularly good at discovering all renderers on the network, independent of MC.  It also provides lots of detailed info on discovered renderers)

- Windows checks
Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings
Private > Network discovery > Turn on network discovery

Many thanks for your replies and taking the time to reply.
Solved. After going to Services & Plug-ins > Media Network found there were no services running. So was prompted to turn on Media Network and it's now working. I had a NAS crash a few weeks ago and my libraries disappeared and as part of that I had reinstalled JRiver and forgotten to turn Media Network back on.
