I tried burning a Data CD for the first time. It seemed to write ok, but when I inserted the completed disk into the CD ROM, my computer did not recognize it as a valid disk. In Windows Explorer, when I click on the CD, it gives me the message, "Please Insert a Disk into Drive E:"

Did you try closing Media Center and then re-inserting the CD? We've got a problem where on some systems the newly burned CD isn't recognized until MC is closed down. We're working on it.

Sheesh! We've got the exact same model burner on WinXP and have been burning audio and data CD's for months without problems. Do data burns work ok? Can you do audio burns in other software successfully? Maybe try turning off direct decoding and dropping the burn speed. Maybe try different media? Check in task manager for other burning software running (imapi.exe ??). Reboot, reinstall...

Can't rip or burn (either audio or data) with my CD burner. I hadn't tried burning a CD in awhile; I've posted on several of the last builds about my problems burning a data (mp3) CD, thought I'd check and see if I could copy an audio CD--can't do it. Get the dreaded "Unkown Error=1" message on any attempt to rip, and the "illegal mode for this track" message when I try to burn a data CD. Checked my drive settings; they all appear to be ok. On earlier builds, I was able to rip and burn. On the other hand, I'm not having any problems with yadb whatsoever, so by my limited range of thinking, I don't think the issues that some of the other MC9 users are having with yadb are related to the drive issues.

Well, I can burn an audio CD now using 114, but same old problem with data CDs (although it appears that nothing is being written on the CD now--at least I'm not getting anymore coasters). I tried burning a data CD using adaptec, worked perfectly...

I can rip CDs now (using the MC9 encoder), so that's fixed. Still can't use my external encoder though.

OK, I know I have posted this already. :-/ However, I downloaded MC v9.0.114, and I am still having the same gap and track division problems when burning CDs.

I set the DSP Studio (last time I tried it "gapless") to a gap of 1.5 seconds. Most of the tracks were correct, however a couple had about the first second on the end of the previous track, and one in particular actually had about 6 seconds at the end of the previous track. When will this be fixed?

One other question: When will the replay gain / normalization to max. peak value be implemented (for burning)? Thanks once again.

I don't know if this is related to Media Center or not. I hadn't tried to burn a CD since before I built my new PC, and my first attempt after putting my old (reliable) drive in my PC was after I had installed MC9.

Now I can't burn a CD in ANY program or mode. WinXP won't do it with the native software, the HP Record Now won't work. Media Center 9 won't do it, and neither will other jukebox programs.

Oh yeah, it's an HP 9100+ series CD-RW.

Any ideas?

What are the symptoms of the failure? Is it not detected as a burner, or does it fail immediately when starting to burn (what error message), or does it fail partially into the burn?

First, check the connections. Is it on it's own IDE channel set to "master" device? If it shares an IDE channel is it set to master with the other device set to slave?

Post your system info here (from MC's help menu).

Great to hear it's working. You can thank RemyJ since he sent me his Sony drive which was having data CD burning problems and I fixed a bug which probably also fixed your drive.

OK, I tried 9.0.115 (not 116 yet) and the results are identical to the last few builds, ie. not correct. I made the same CD and it came out with the same errors in the same places (once again, it is not the MP3 files, I checked those). Any more help or suggestions? Thanks again!

Yep, tried all these, but as soon as software starts writing to disc MJ freezes. Burning works fine with Nero.

Actually, we can now reproduce this problem on Teac drives. Something we did to support another drive must have broken this one. There will be a fix out before the end of the week.

Do you get the same results if you de-select the "decode direct" option and turn off all DSP and playback options? If so, could you send me some of the files that are causing problems?

You are not the only one... I have the same problem - if you figure it out, post your settings here ion this thread. I just about gave up on making CD's through Media Center 9 b/c of the track division problems. My system is a pretty new Dell Dimension 8200 P4 w/ stock cd/rw drive.

I have a Dell Dimension 4400 with the stock CD-RW, I wonder if that has something to do with the problem. However, my whole computer crashed so I have yet to test the newest version with those options.

This is weird. Nikolay was having problems with his Teac drive which formerly worked fine with MC. I installed it on my computer and tried burning and saw the same problem: it was burning at about .1X! So.. I went into debugging mode ... it started working fine! Then I powered down completely, restarted and ran the regular MC right off the website and it still worked fine. I haven't been able to get it to fail since.
Another user reported a similar experience (see "very slow burn speed" thread) with a Teac. Try putting your drive into "test mode" and do a test burn. Then try a real burn to see if it's better.
I'm still digging around on this one.

Got over my problem of having to restart to get the CD out of the drive with previous versions, have CD text correct, but the audio is garbled... and I want CD text so I won't go unchecking that now, will I. Don't get any error messages it just aint comin out right.

I discovered that my "Power User" can't use the burner, but my "Administrator" can. I'm running Win2k, however, not XP.

these are the tech specs for the version that gives good CD audio output and good CD-text with my dell CD burner.... other details in my former post... the problem with this one is I have to restart to get the CD out of the drive

I'm still having problems:

1) Upgraded to 124 with my regular user (both straight install & cleaning out all registry entries).
2) Upgraded to 124 with my adiministrator (both straight install & cleaning out all registry entries).
3) Upgraded to ASPI 4.7.1a2

I'm totally mystified--the DVD/CD-RW is recognized with logged in as the Administrator, but not when logged in as my regular user.

OS: Windows 2000 Professional (SP3)....

The only clue I've had is that a DVD ripping program I've been trying also only works when logged in as the administrator. If I'm the regular user, it complains that you need Admin privs to start STPI...

As far as the track division problems, if you were burning CBR mp3 files and had "decode directly" enabled, please try the next build (9.0.126). A bug in that area has been fixed.

I can't burn any audio CD's in MC anymore. I haven't tried a data CD since this problem began, but basically All I get when burning an Audio CD is MC says "Writing lead-in" and then immediately says "Error writing pre-gap 1"

I've tried all sorts of different settings, using DSP settings and not, decoding directly to CD and not. Nothing works.

I can take the exact same playlist and burn an audio CD just fine in WMP.

Any ideas?

You can tell our CD writer to create a log file by setting a registry value to one (1) rather than zero (0). The value is at this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Jukebox\CD Writer\Logger

Try setting this, then start up MC and try a burn. Then exit MC and email me the file called "cdwriter.log" in the MC program directory.

MC crashes at the end of an audio CD burning (CD-RW). All tracks are readeable on the PC player, none on my home player (it seems the CD has not been closed).

It is probably not 9.0.127 specific: my last burn test was months ago and it was unsuccessful also.

Could you try enabling logging as was described in the posting just before yours and email me the results?
Another thing to try that might help troubleshooting is to see if it works if you uncheck the "decode direct to CD" checkbox.

I just began a burn test with cdwriter.log enabled.

Before that I failed to erase my CD-RW with MC. I got "an error occured during the erase process..." (I tried twice). Then I erased it with Nero successfully.

Hi John,

I have tried MC9 on my laptop which is equiped with a TEAC CD-W224E Burner. The Burner is not recognized by MC Thought it works great with either Nero or EasyCD Creator.
I tried the 'Detect' button in the Options without any success.
