When I check "use internal ASPI" and "use internal burning engine" I cannot erase a CD-R/W. It starts to erase, then never seems to finish. The program doesn't hang, but I can't do anything with the burner from then on. Closing MJ and re-opening resets everything, but status changes to "unusable disk" or "unwriteable" or something.

Un-checking "use internal burning engine" allows me to erase a CD-R/W (even though I'm using internal ASPI, which wasn't working for me yesterday!).

BTW - a progress meter while erasing would be a welcome addition!

After erasing the CD-R/W, I checked "use internal burning engine", closed and re-started MJ (just to be sure) and tried a burn. Got progress meters, and it seemed to be burning, but there's nothing on the disk!

So, the combination that seems to work for me is un-checking "use internal burning engine" and un-checking "use internal ASPI", and downloading ASPI, except I'm still getting a warning box telling me that I have a version conflict with my ASPI.

Still wondering what the conditions are where you're supposed to use no ASPI, internal ASPI, or downloaded ASPI.

Also, where can I download a proper ASPI without a "version conflict"??

Oh yeah - MJ9 thinks my DVD-ROM is a burner!

Hi JRiver,
Still no luck with my Iomega Burner. Infacf this build v9.0.78 thinks my internal drive is a  burner. Hope it comes good soon. Best wishes

Here's a summary as I see it of the current problems:

1. Non burners being recognized as burners.
Status: This is fixed for the next release.

2. USB and Firewire drives not recognized.
Status: Still working on this problem.

3. CD/RW erasing issues.
Status: Should be fixed in the next release.

4. Occasionally a "failed to send cue sheet" error at the start of a burn.
Status: Fixed for next release.

5. Problem with data CD file system integrity.
Status: Haven't been able to reproduce this yet. A sample "mjf" file would be helpful.

6. Still getting failures on some burners at the end of the last track.
Status: Hopefully this is fixed for the next release.

7. Mr. X's problems with aspi and data not getting written to disk.
Status: I think this may be unrelated to the new burning engine, so I will open a new thread for this entitled "Mr X CD burning problem".

8. Temp wave file not saved for successive burns.
Status:In progress.

Please let me know if I've missed anything and then I'll start a new "sticky" thread since this one is getting rather long.

Thanks,
- John T.

My DVD still appears to have a fiery disk icon in the removables view, using 9.0.79.  Also see list of burners in system configuration below.

6. Still getting failures on some burners at the end of the last track.
Status: Hopefully this is fixed for the next release.

I have just experienced a "Code 112, no additional sense information" failure, but at about 20% into the burn, rather than the end"

5. Problem with data CD file system integrity.
Status: Haven't been able to reproduce this yet. A sample "mjf" file would be helpful.

As soon as I can reproduce it myself, I'll send one on to y'all!

Thanks for all the hard work, JohnT. We appreciate it, and it's rewarding just to be a participant.

Yes, it does.
Both burning engines work.
I haven't tried any tracks that it would show up on but apparently the "two second gap" is no longer a necessity, i.e. DAO. THAT hasn't been the case for me since Version 6.

MJ Now sees my burner though I had 3 unsuccessful trials yesterday  when tring to burn  an audio cd will test again later and report back.
I was burning a 21 track CD but MJ would only burn 18 and the last few tracks were an incorrect length. Improvements are coming all the time keep up the good work.

Thanks for the report Tangodude. More details would help us track down the problem. If I understand correctly, you tried three audio burns and with each one you got some good tracks and some with incorrect lengths.
Were the tracks too long or too short, and by how much?
What format were they in (Mp3, ape, etc.)?
Were you using the playback settings for burning, and if so what were your settings?

Thanks!

Hi John T
I believe all the tracks were mp3s. I did have CD Text on. I was set at Direct sound 16bit
I hope to do some more today and will let you know.

JohnT,

mine does not :-( not for CDs and not very surprinsing not  for DVD+RW. Here's what I get when trying to burn a CD-RW: it starts to burn, starts writing lead out and finally tells me: "Power on, reset or bus device reset occuered"
After rebooting to my 'normal' system I can access the files. Couldn't do that on my test-system. File compare says everthing is fine.

I didn't try to burn files from my database, but droped files from windows explorer. 18 files, but MJ only recognized 17. the file it ignored was a playlist (Songs from the Capeman.m3u). bug or feature?

one more question: it's kind of strange having the "file x of y" jump arround and not counting from 1 to y ... any plans on changing that?

and even one more: any plans on including DVD+RW support? would be great to backup mp3s ;-) (by the way, musicmatch already has support for DVD+RW ;-))

Ingo

edit: probably not that important ;-) : I'm talking about a Ricoh 5120 DVD+RW drive, WinXP Pro German, all WindowsUpdate installed. Internal ASPI.

Well had to change out my Promise ATA/100 controller for a SIIG ATA/133 controller.  After this change, the internal aspi layer is causing my DVD-ROM (generic "white-box" drive) to be detected as a burner.

Internal ASPI.  Note that the burners section has 2 entries with E also showing as a TDK burner.

Hi to all,

so I sent my question to the wrong group. Perhaps I can find my answer here.

First of all the technicals:

Media Jukebox PLUS 9.0.80
Install Path: D:\Programme\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III Mobile CPU 1200 MHz
Memory: Total - 496 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Professional

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 5.82.2600.0
Shlwapi.dll: 6.0.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 6.0.2600.0
wnaspi32.dll: 4.7.0.0

I just changed from Media Jukebox 8 to the above mentioned version and it was the first try to burn a CD.

Can anybody help?

Regards
Dirk

dansch,
Is your USB device shown in the MJ tree as a drive?
If not, do you know how to reinstall a USB device? USB stuff is great when it works well but it can be a little finicky.
Reinstallation should be a matter of shut down - unplug - restart without the device - shut down - plug it back in - restart.
I've had to do this with at least three different devices for different programs to "see" them.
If that doesn't work, there is a slightly more complex way to do it. Try the easy way first. No harm should come of it whether it works or not.

Hi John,

I have the pleasure to report that both my CD writers works pretty well with
my newly installed MC9.084.

Yamaha  CRW2100E
Sony CRX195E4

Parameters Used :
Use Internal ASPI layer
Decodes Files directly to CD
Writes CD-Text
No Normalization
No 2 secs gap
No current playback settings
No Test mode (I love living on the edge !)

I dunno if it works or not yet.
But if I ready the burn list then re-arrange the folders to "Hard Drive" it crashes MC reliably

Yeah, MJ Engine on or off doesn't affect it.  It reliably crashes when I re-arrange folders to "hard drive" evn if the burn list is empty.
I had MJ Engine on and discovered the problem then turned it off, confirmed it was still there and then posted with my system info

Hi,

after upgrading to this new build, my burner doesn't work any more:

Mitsumi CR-4808TE (8x4x2)

when i send some songs to device g:burner, some grafiks disappear and the program freeses. i have already checked the burner settings, there couldn´s be any fault, i have unchecked things like cd text, etc.

please tell me if the problem will be solved soon, or if i should burn with mj 8 again.

thanx and good luck with alpha and beta work, it will be a great program!

I thought it didn't work.
I tried to make my first Cd with Version 9 and first thing I noticed is nothing showed up on the bar which show you how much time will be filled on the CD.  It said 0% used or something like that when all mp3s I was going to burn was "in que"  I hit start and watched the progress...got message that it was finished.  I took CD out of burner and put it into the CD/DVD reader and Media Center detected nothing no matter how many times I refreshed or took it in/out.  So I put this new audio CD into burner drive and it showed me tracks (which had no info about title, by the way).  I tried to play it and it just skipped through the list with no sound.  So I assummed this disk was bad.  I closed Media Center, added the skin which I had been using but didn't appear when I upgraded from Version 8 and then restarted Media Center.  I put the disk in my CD?DVD drive just for kicks...and it could see tracks!  Then it played fine.  I didn't listen to whole thing but seems ok.
I don't know how to cut and paste my system info but if you'll point me to the directions without me having to rescan the whole forum I will be happy to give you system info.  I'm not really lazy and I've real lots if not most of these posts but I can't remember where I saw it.  Thanks.

Burning /  Drive F: HP CD-WRITER+ 9300   Addr: 1:1:0  Speed:10  MaxSpeed:10  Lib:3  GHS:1  Use MJ Engine:Yes
 Drive G: SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-240B   Addr: 1:0:0  Speed:40  MaxSpeed:40  Lib:3  GHS:1  Use MJ Engine:Yes
Test mode: No /  Eject after writing: Yes /  Direct decoding: Yes /  Two second gap: No /  Write CD-Text: No
Use playback settings: Yes /  Normalization: None

The Yamaha seems to work really well. The HP doesn't (or didn't the last I checked - but I don't care because as soon as I get my DVD-R (maybe RW) then the HP is going bye-bye), but it could just be the drive. I've had weird behavior from it lately.

I actually have a question. Is the option to use Playback Settings supposed to include DSP settings? Because it doesn't seem to be honoring the Replay Gain setting when I burn CD's, and the volume per track winds up all over the place.

Currently, the "use playback settings" option does just that, it uses the crossfade settings but not DSP (and not replay gain). I will be adding a mode to accomodate the DSP's, but in some cases it will necessitate creating an intermediate wave file before writing the CD. This is because the burner needs to know track lengths before beginning the burn and some DSP settings change track lengths on the fly.

Please post your system info (from MJ's help menu). Does it freeze when you start burning, or when you just queue up files to the burner?

This seems backwards to me. How does DSP (which changes how the file sounds, volume, etc) effect the length of the track, while using various crossfading techniques doesn't? Wouldn't it be just the opposite?

Well, replay-gain, eq, and many other DSP's don't change track lengths, but some do. Crossfading can be predicted easily beforehand. We will accomodate these.
Another handy feature (especially for cross-fading) would be the "eliminate silence" option, although this will change track lengths and can't be predicted without reading the file beforehand.

Everything seeems to work normal except that the bottom size-bar usually (but not always) shows 0MB. The tracks are burned to the media, but are invisible. Tried 3 times. Same result.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, do whatever you have to do as long as I get a CD where all the tracks are the same volume. If MC has to write a temporary file to do it, by all means, go for it. :)

OK, I've got 2 serious data CD problems with 9.0.87

Both of these problems have been reported by others but I can reproduce them at will.

  • Files have the ID3V1 tag of a different file written at the start of the file and their own ID3V1 tags are missing from the end.  Two consistent albums:
    Kinks: BBC Sessions 1964 - 1977
Warren Zevon: The Best of Warren Zevon

  • Some album directories are inaccessable.  From a command line I get "The system cannot find the path specified".  From the windows explorer, I get "This folder was moved or removed."   It appears that only the last artist get's it tracks written.  Of the following, only Poco/Legend had files in it.
    D:\Paul McCartney & Wings\Wingspan - Hits & History (Disc 1)
    D:\Paul McCartney & Wings\Wingspan - Hits & History (Disc 2)
    D:\Pearl Jam\Riot Act
D:\Pete Townshend\Pete Townshend Live_ A Benefit for Maryville Academy (Disc 1)
D:\Pete Townshend\Pete Townshend Live_ A Benefit for Maryville Academy (Disc 2)
    D:\Poco\Legend
If I burn only Paul McCartney, it works.  If I burn Paul McCartney and Pearl Jam, only Pearl Jam has files.

SERIOUS BUG:

Latest build of MJ, tried to burn a data cd and MJ crashed. Not sure if it finished and then crashed or just crashed but it totally died. Tried the cd in explorer and the folders are unaccessible.
Tried burning a data cd with MJ two builds back and had serious problems too. It burnt the cd. All the tracks almost lost their id3 tags. Half the folders are unaccessible in explorer, the ones that aren't accessible are the only ones that play in my car stereo (mp3 compatible). Parts of the songs are mixed together, the filenames for songs say one thing when the song is a totally different one etc.

Basically I dont know what the hell it did but it did a REALLY MAJOR mess up. Cant even begin to imagine how.

Hi John,

To day I experienced a strange problem burning a CD :
It was the second burn in a row (first one went Ok). I burnt an audio CD from a 15 tracks playlist
with CD-TEXT on and the result was a CD with 15 times the same track !!!!
Track #15 of my playlist got burnt 15 times (nicely) but the strange thing was that the CD-Text
information were correct.
CD Track#1 had the text for playlist track#1 with music from playlist track#15
CD Track#2 had the text for playlist track#2 with music from playlist track#15
(....)
CD Track#15 had the text for playlist track#15 with music from playlist track#15 (one correct !)

Has someone already reported this kind of problems ?

Thanks for the report. It's probably the same problem as we're having with the Philips drives, so when I get that fixed, please see if yours works as well.

For me its half working. I can burn an audio CD no problems, but burning a data CD doesnt work. MC seems to burn the disc OK, but when I try and look at the contents in any application they do not appear. Nero shows the CD as having a session created on it, and I can view the files in it (Nero), but cannot do any more. It seems as if MC is not closing the session when it burns, but I know very little about this (in truth I only have a sketchy idea of what a 'session' is). I cant find any mention of this problem elsewhere.

I don't know if this is me or Media Center.

I hadn't tried CD burning before with Media Center but thought I'd try it after adding a second burner to my system.

MC doesn't recognize any burners as being present!!

I have a DVD/CD player (not burner) on the master of my secondary slot and a AOPEN 4048 on that slave, these are E: and F: respectively.  Also a Plextor 12/10/32A on the master of an Ultra100 card, this is D:.  All are seen by MC, but no burning options and when I go to "Burn CD" from the menubar I get "Failed to find any CD-R/W devices on your system".

They're recognized and burnable (just tested) by Feurio.

Any ideas?  :)
