Media Center 9.0.131 beta
« on: March 19, 2003, 12:33:27 pm »

Media Center 9.0.131 beta is available.

Many things will crash and not work.  If that worries you, please wait for a couple of weeks.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90131.exe

1. Fixed: Audio resampling could sound bad in some cases.
2. Fixed: File associations in Media Scheduler did not work correctly.
3. Fixed: Turning a DSP Studio component on by changing a setting wouldn't always make the MC pick up that the DSP was on.
4. Fixed: Media Server would not serve files with path in UNC format.
5. NEW: Added TV Tuner settings dialog to options window.
6. Changed: TV Tuner window was redesigned.
7. Changed: Menu bar more compliant with UI standards. (behavior from left, right, up, down, ALT, etc.)
8. Fixed: MC did not work properly with international keyboards. (Alt Gr, etc.)
9. Changed: Ctrl+Alt+1, Ctrl+Alt+2, etc. changed to Ctrl+Shift+1, Ctrl+Shift+2, etc.. (to rate current playing song)
10. Fixed: Drag-n-drop reordering would scroll too fast.

Can you give more details?

Where are you when you're trying to scroll?  Thumbnails or details?  Large list or small list?  Are the bars there?  Does disabling MEGA-ME skinning make a difference?

Thanks.

- When in Full Hairstyle Mode (22009,3), it is not possible to switch to Full Visualisation mode (22009,2) via the new MCC commands, it stays in Full Hairstyle Mode.

- Can't we have the option back to put the toolbar on the second line underneath the menu ? all my icons won't fit on it now.

- Now we have the option in the right click menu to export a playlist if we clicked a playlist in the treeview. Can we have this for every item in the tree ?

- Using Date Created in a custom made view scheme for my images doesn"t show anything and grouping them does not work either.

- Copy/Paste songs from one library to another doesn't work anymore

- Clicking on CD Labeler inside MC, it opens the popup menu and closes it straight away

- When "Play" is selected in the option "Action to perform when media is inserted" does not work. It asks what to do, if I click "Play", it switches to the device and then pops up with "Please select files to play". As well as for Audio as DVD

I know there are a lot of things going on, but we were told to remind you about creating a list type for custom fields so that we could use ";" as separators as is the case for the "keywords" field. Has this been added and I've missed it?  Thanks!

It will only display "Video" if there are in fact videos that match the rest of the query.  There's a checkbox on the bottom of the wizard to turn that on and off.

Still, you'll need "Video" in your library for it to ever show up.

Audio CD's still aren't finalizing on my system -- though as of build 130 this was apparently fixed.  Same issue -- hangs on last song.

What happened to copy in the cover art menu??
I removed a cover art to try the new quick find feature thinking never mind if it doesn't work I can always copy it from another file in the same album...it didn't work as the cover wasn't stored in cover art or file folder so I went to copy from another track and...copy has gone.  Please bring this back...

10. Fixed: Drag-n-drop reordering would scroll too fast.

Much better, but still too sensitive and accelrates too rapidly. Please slow it down a little more.

The "Select Base Name File Path" Dialog box still opens at the highest level instead of opening at the current location. When you only want to move to a different sub-directory having to rexpand everything is very inconvenient.  :P

Thanks.

  • New  Date Opened: 2003/03/19  Priority: High
CTRL-n and CTRL-ALT-n now set rating instead of CTRL-SHIFT-n and there's no way to do what CTRL-n did (select tree categories)

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/03/18  Priority: High
Can't play any files with UNC filenames via the Media Server.  Reported fixed in 131 but doesn't seem to be.

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/02/24  Priority: High
The confirmation box that pops up on a Find and Replace on filename if the destination file already exists needs more options.  'Accept, Accept All, Ignore, Ignore All and Cancel'

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/02/24  Priority: High
The converter forces '[ARTIST]/[ALBUM]' directory naming which un-does directoy changes made to compilation albums to get them into the 'multiple artists' category.

  • Open  Date Opened: 2002/11/14  Priority: High
When 'Decode directly to CD' is unchecked, and you burn more than 1 CD, the raw temp file is deleted and recreated for each CD instead of using the one created at the start of the first burn

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/03/18  Priority: Medium
Old bug resurfaced:  If 'External Encoder' is selected, it's options dialog pops up un-asked for when the main encoder options page is opened.

  • Open  Date Opened: 2002/11/14  Priority: Medium
When the media server responds to a search, it responds with the first interface it's bound to even if that interface isn't reachable by the client that issued the search request.   My server has 2 interfaces, one private, one public.  My laptop is on the public network.  I issue a search from the laptop and the server responds with the name and ip address of the private interface which the laptop can never reach.  Combined with the previous problem, I can get 4 responses for the private interface, all useless

  • Open  Date Opened: 2002/11/14  Priority: Medium
If the client actually gets only 1 response to a Media Server search, it tries to connect immediately.  It should problably give you an option to see the response and confirm that you want to connect to it.

  • Open  Date Opened: 2002/10/15  Priority: Medium
Analyze Audio isn't handling tracks under 10 seconds very well.   BPM is left at 0 and gains are set anywhere from -20db to +159db.   This would be OK if there were a way to manually adjust the gain and peak level values instead of just being able to clear them.

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/02/21  Priority: Low
If you hold down the CTRL key while selecting items in the details pane, you can only select 5-6 before the previous selections un-select themselves.

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/02/13  Priority: Low
The YADB track lookup will only work in small batches.  I just tried a batch of 14 track from 'Neko Case' 'Blacklisted' and got the last 4 tracks only.  Had to go back and do 4 at a time to get them all.

  • Open  Date Opened: 2003/01/22  Priority: Low

  • Open  Date Opened: 2002/09/26  Priority: Low

Batch Tagging - If MC Loses the focus during a batch retagging it never redraws the progress dialog...meaning you have to wait until it finishes without any way of knowing when that will be.  Is there no way it could redraw the dialog every 500 files or so??

Issues:

1.      No way to connect a remote PC (i.e. one other than the one on which the server is running) to Media Server by referencing the name of the computer on the LAN, e.g. as \\COMPUTER:81 where “COMPUTER” is the name of the computer on the LAN and 81 is the port number the server has been set up to operate on. I believe this used to work, e.g. in Build 100.

2.      No way to connect to a Media Server with security activated

3.      Attempting to play many internet radio stations from Web Media (e.g. CNet Radio) does not work. It just produces a dialog box entitled “Warning” that says “Please select file(s) to play.”

4.      Attempting to play internet radio stations that have been saved as library entries does not work from a remote PC.

5.      Attempt to display and image file from a remote PC, throws you into the Hairstyle interface and a Warning dialog that says “Media Center encountered errors trying to play the last several files.”

6.      No thumbnails of image files are displayed on remote PCs.

7.      Double clicking on an image file from the PC running the server works, but after displaying the image the user is returned to the FSUI not the windowed UI.

8.      Intermittent problems with Media Center not running on both the server PC and remote PC. It is unclear whether this is because an instance of Media Center is stilling running in some fashion, because after a new logon, Media Center always runs fine.

9.      No sound when watching TV using the TV tuner card (an ATI TV Wonder).

10.      No thumbnail available for AVI files.

11.      AVI files do not play.

12.      Once video file is played, hitting escape to get out of the player results in the video stopping, but often the sound continues.

13.      Only the first 16 images are displayed from full screen mode. Is there a way to display more images or move to the next page? If so, it is not apparent from the FSUI itself.

Bugs:
1. Menu-bar emulation (or kludge) is not working to Windows UI standards.  The underscore is showing before I press Alt...on my system it should be hidden until I press Alt (Windows setting).  After pressing ALT-<letter> and the corresponding menu pops up, you should only have to type the letter of the accelerated sub-menu item (not press ALT-<letter> again).  When you press ALT-<letter> to bring up a menu, the first item in the menu should automatically be selected.  You should be able to press ALT by itself to toggle the menu-bar highlighting. You can try all these standard menu UI things in any program (like IE, Word, Notepad) to see what I'm talking about.  Also, look at IE to see how the menu-bar should be separate from any toolbar and you should be able to place (dock) each independently.

I just used the new (to me) iPod Eject menu item after synching my iPod. I immediately received an "unsafe disconnect" message from Windows (w2k pro).

Is it safe to use the Eject Item?

The additional options for TV are an improvement - except now we have no choice as to the order of the channels!
I do not want channels ordered by either alphabetical name nor channel number - I want to define the order they appear in the list.

Web Radio - still not working for anything other than the 'Featured Stations' - still get the dialog box saying 'Please select file(s) to play'

Why do we have to have 'Featured Stations' at all - I do not like any of them, and do not want MC putting them in my way (I am licenced)  Can you get rid of this please?  If I did like any of the stations there, I could put them into 'My stations'

OLD: In WMA Format, Cover Art cannot be stored internally, only externally!

OLD: Toolbar settings reset to default after upgrade. Had 3 extra icons on my toolbar that disappeared again.

NEW (131):
Tools>Filename>Rename files from Properties:
1) Default file and directory rules no more selectable
2) User specific rules repeat themselves like

[ARTIST] ([TRACK #]) [NAME]
[ARTIST] ([TRACK #]) [NAME]
[ARTIST] ([TRACK #]) [NAME]

3) Superfluous entries cannot be deleted.
-------------------------------------------------

Not a bug, but for more consistency:
Cover Art option: Get from Internet>Offline (Use already downloaded cover-art) should be separate menu option, as there is no access to Internet in this case!
Is this not the same functionality as "Quick Find in File / Cover Art Directory"?

Hi,

I have found out what is the problem that means I cannot use any of the pop-up or drop-down menus in MC.

I run a utility which puts the time into the title-bar of the active application.  Whenever it changes the time (could be every second) you stop showing any menu that has been requested.

This is only a problem in MC since about version 117, and is not a problem with any other software I use.

Could you return the menu handling to as before so that they do not disapear?

Thanks

The utility must steal the focus. (something it really shouldn't do)

Can you give us a name / URL so we can test it?  Maybe we can make a special case or something...

Thanks.

Could you return the menu handling to as before so that they do not disapear?

Thanks

The utility must steal the focus. (something it really shouldn't do)

Can you give us a name / URL so we can test it?  Maybe we can make a special case or something...

Thanks.

The Utility I use is called 'Worldtime'  from www.pawprint.net/wt - I use the beta version version 6 (6.0.0.937)
Under Preferences - Settings select 'Display Clocks' and tick the 'Activate Title Bar Clock'.

It may steal focus (it is not obvious that it does)  - what is odd is that it does not effect anything else but MC.

If you could take a look and maybe sort it out, it would be great - Thanks Matt

Build 131 is still applying media audio to every video I import into MC. They can however be played as video.

Select images then play them (full screen). After the last image, MCswitches to HairStyle mode when I expect it stay on the last image. It is very irritating !

It's like music -- the last song won't play over and over.

Put MC in continuous mode if you want that.

You listen music and you watch image, it is not the same thing. I don't want 'continuous' mode for music but I want to be able to see a photo a long time.

It is nice to have homogeneous concepts/tools for both audio and image but if it is unusable nobody will use it.

When the last song finishes MC doesn't switch to HairStyle.

If you want to do the same thing for audio and image, why there is not a "pause" button when you display an image (full screen) ?

I think we're all probably a little uneasy right now.

Anyway, next build will try to make images work more like music. (pause will work, it'll display the duration left, etc.)

Thanks michel.

Just a small (I hope) request from one of the lazy folks.

If it is easy, can you please remember my last choice when I delete a file, if I choose delete, and send to recycle bin, then make that my default for the next use.

I don't need it remember between program loads only for this session.

I use the mouse (I know I can hit SHIFT DELETE)... just a lazy request. Not a big deal. ::)
