This is a new build of JRiver Media Center 29 for Mac.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted.

Download Universal Silicon/Intel 64 bit build
https://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v29/latest/MediaCenter2900066-Universal.dmg (minimum requirement MacOS 10.11)

1. NEW: Add SHOW_THEATER_VIEW_MODE_SPOTLIGHT (13) to MCC_THEATER_VIEW which shows the Spotlight page for the currently playing file.
2. NEW: Using OSD commands (i.e. remote control or keyboard) to change aspect ratio settings during live TV playback will save the settings so that the same setting will be used in the future.

12. NEW: Skins can specify an ANALYZER section and provide a background color (example: <Colors Background="ff00ff" />).
13. Fixed: NVIDIA NVENC hardware video encoding did not work reliably on all newer drivers.
14. Fixed: The smooth progress bar would stop being smooth after going in or coming out of display view.

11. Fixed: A new template would not load when doing "Refresh" in the Tag Action Window.

29.0.54 (5/27/2002)

1. NEW: Scroll zoom with the mouse wheel or trackpad for image playback implemented.
2. Changed: Reverted the optimization that resulted in a slower benchmark in build 50, now turned to speed only and it's significantly faster (on M1) then previous builds.
3. Changed: In image playback, left-clicking the image will no longer zoom in or out.

4. Changed: Spotlight: increase height of horizontal scroll bars and make some caption text bold.

8. Changed: Quick Find Cover Art on a client issues the request to the server.
9. Changed: When scrollable edit controls are inside scrollable windows (like Manage Library Fields) the mouse wheel will only operate the inner most window.

While you are working on fixing the window borders would you please add a larger grab area around the window to match the normal behavior of all other apps which allow grabs a good 10 pixels or more around the outside of the window borders?  Having to mouse in on one grab pixel around the window is really very difficult.

I do agree with it being difficult resizing and stuff. Also is it possible to enable enlarging of the scroll bar on the right side?

there totally seems to be some regressions in the past few versions with media keys while the app is in the background and launching Apple Music instead.  Please work on making this much more robust whatever it actually takes.

It's certainly not 1 pixel. You'd never be able to grab it if it was.

The grab area on my M1 with 4k monitor is the same width/height as other apps. I just compared to Thunderbird. It's the same. Pages is the same too. I have no idea what you are seeing.

Nothing has changed here recently.
MC will ask for permission to filter the media keys. If that's given, it will eat the media keys it processes. If not it will process them but not eat them. It's all it can do in that situation.

On my latest macOs Intel mac mini with VP3881 3840x1600 display in the Modern Cards: Dark Edition skin it certainly is 1 pixel since it only shows the drag cursor within one pixel position of the mouse.  You have to be exactly on that pixel to get the grab cursor.  Non-retina display.  Not sure what to say here except you probably need to test on a non-retina system.

Additionally regarding media keys it never actually asked me for media keys permissions.

Options->Tree and View->Enlarge scrollbars on mouseover
It's super finnicky for me and i have to hit the very specific area of the bar which is tiny with nearly 100k in the list. It doesn't enlarge unless i hit just the right spot on top of it for me, reason I want it to be bigger all the time is i'm using it on a tv from a distance.

Another thing is the dark theme highlight bar is still gray with black text which is super hard to read. It's affecting current playing song and all highlighted. If not this is a bug or a setting in macos itself, how can I make an edit myself to make it consistent with how it behaves on the windows version of the same exact skin?

  • Where did I put my teeth?

TV from a distance is what that was made for.  Are you hovering over the scrollbar?

Try other skins.

Explains why I don't see that. I never use that skin. Others seem to have a border that work (I use Black and Blue amongst others). Seems like a skin bug.

It is set in the plist to generate a security query for filtering media keys.

NSAppleEventsUsageDescription

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<string>MediaCenter needs access to your system events to get Media Keys</string>
</plist>

Questions on the net about this indicate a lot of changes and a lot of bugs and no transparency from the developer point of view.
It appears that the permission needed is accessibility not input monitoring. Indeed if I toggle that off and restart MC I get the behavior you describe. Turn it back on and restart MC and it no longer brings up Music.

I've also see references to each signed build needing to get the permission again but that sounds nuts.

The results of the attempt to get this permission is logged in MC (and should probably be in the system logs as well)

Bob - The only problems I could find in MC29.0.66 were:-
On opening with a partially played playlist it still isn't AutoScrolling down to the track to be played
That screen update that happens immediately after the Next Track Prefetch is prematurely reseting the Progress Bar back to it's start point.

Something that may happen to others - When I 1st opened MC29.0.66 and told it to switch from displaying CoverArt + Lyrics to using a TrackInfo Plugin all I got was an Empty White Display Panel.
I finally got it to Load/Display the TrackInfo Plugin by a "devious method":- I selected a Smartlist from the Tree, which allowed me to open the Display Window in the Tree - telling that to switch to Displaying a TrackInfo Plugin worked; on switching back to Playing Now View not only was the TrackInfo Plugin visible I was bale to switch between plugins.

It's super finnicky for me and i have to hit the very specific area of the bar which is tiny with nearly 100k in the list. It doesn't enlarge unless i hit just the right spot on top of it for me, reason I want it to be bigger all the time is i'm using it on a tv from a distance.

In the attached Pix01 Gallery - https://pix01.jriver.com/qL1%406dnt :-
Image 1 is of a modified ThunderStorm Skin with the DSP Analyzer Window Open where the gridlines and background are using the same color as the ones in the Skin's List Setion (Item 8 for MC29.0.66 and item 12 for MC 29.0.64)
Image 2 shows that I finally got a TrackInfo Plugin to load; Lyrics visible both in the Tag Window and the Lower Panel (Changes to "Lyrics Edit Windows" in MC29.0.54/58/60) and a Maroon (the colour used in the player bar buttons) not Red EditOverlay color in the Tag Window, a change not mentioned.
Oh it also shows a few other modifictions I made to that skin.
Image 3 shows that the Spotlight Windows are now using the skins background and text colours.
Image 4 is a Screenie of a modified ModernCards DarkEdition Skin with the selected/playing track being presented as White Text on Grey and Scroll Bards that are both Twice The Size of the ones in the unmodied skin.

I'll start a new thread detailing what changes a user needs to make to the Skins main.xml to change the Selected/Playing Tracks text from Black to White and how to increase the size of the Scrollbars. https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,133436.0.html

Not sure if this is worth a mention, but if you interact with some of the dropdowns in the Audio section of the left side of MC before it has loaded the library (external) fully, it instantly crashes for me on my m1.

MC should probably disable input while the library is loading.
I assume you are loading a Library server library? Thanks.

Can you make a screen recording of it with quicktime?

I'm still getting the wrong menu the first time I select a menu item after opening MC. Clicking on any menu item opens the Help menu. After that first time, it acts normal.

Still have never seen this either.
Try Options->Tree and View->Advanced->Reset window position settings
(which will reset all saved window placement settings to default)

That didn't help. Screen recording attached.

Edit: I figured out the problem. The app Bartender conflicts. If I shut down Bartender, I no longer have the incorrect menu issue. Bartender is an app that arranges the Mac menu bar. It isn't a big deal so I will deal with it as both programs are essential to me.

Look under Privacy & Security->Automation.
If MC is there under the Bartender app you should be able to disable its control of MC.

Yes, also maybe this is a weird thing to ask or if it's an obscure scenario, but sometimes MC starts so fast after boot it fails to load the library and I have to click retry, is it possible to add a manual delay to the startup until like 30+ seconds after macos boot?

Do you think it has something to do with the network not being completely setup yet?
Is it wireless?

wired gigabit full duplex if it makes any difference, i do have wifi manually turned off but i have no reason to think this is to blame, but maybe i could try with on and reboot a few times to test.

On 29.0.66 (and other 29 versions I tried), MC won't install iZotope RX 9 vst plugins (e.g. RX 9 De-click) while running as a native app.  Nothing happens when you try to install the plug-in. Forcing MC to run under Rosetta 'fixes' the issue and allows the plug-in to be loaded, but trying to access the plug-in when running MC natively gives the error "Cannot load plug-in - please reinstall".  The RX9 plugins are documented as natively compatible with M1, and examining the plug-in executables with lipo shows that they support the arm64 architecture.

--UPDATE--
I opened the plugin package, and it contains a PluginHooksVST executable, with the de-clicker executable contained in a separate bundle.  The PluginHooksVST executable is x86_64 only, not arm_64, so I guess that's the issue.  Is this fixable within MC, or is it purely an iZotope problem?
