Installing MC30 and Questions

JimH:
I'm guessing you could install the 64-bit version of MC on your laptop without problems.

Did you try using a different browser to download?

I would try the 64-bit version again on the machine where you were having trouble. You know now that the 32 bit version will work. Is there anything unusual about that machine?

Check drive for errors?

I haven't tried to install anything on the laptop. Being cautious I didn't want MC30 being on it first and complicating the licensing and server/client stuff later on. I want this desktop to be the MC "top dog" as if the laptop did not exist. Do you want me to do it anyway? If so, send me the link I should use on the laptop to download it.
I forgot to use another browser to download before so I went back and did that for the x64 package (so instead of Firefox I used Edge). The x32 package that successfully ran was downloaded on Firefox. Installed the Edge x64 download but it did not run. I uninstalled.

Next I tried installing a "not an upgrade" package downloaded from JRiver main page. It did not run. Why did I try that? I was trying to keep the discussion from getting over-complicated but I guess I should spell out everything ad nauseum.  :-[ Last night I realized I made a mistake when I installed MC26 two-yrs back. I did a custom location install and meant to install to C:\Programs\Media Center 26. Instead it installed the MC files into the root of Programs. So there is no Media Center 26 folder. And wasn't a J River one until I did the MC30 installs. (I have been installing MC custom location every since my first MC install. MC16 I think was.) Sooo ... I thought the first packages might be "upgrade" ones and couldn't find the previous install and that caused the run problem. Full disclosure: My Library data is in the default place but all media itself is on a separate disk.

Other than those mentions I can't think of anything unusual about this Dell XPS 8930 Intel i7 64-bit machine or setup. MC26 has done fine.

BTW: there was a Media Center30 Windows-569513.mjr file in the Downloads folder and I deleted it by accident. Does that matter?

Drive check/quick scan just done. No errors

The MJR file is your Install key.  You could read about licensing on the wiki. The topic is called restoring a license.

Don't worry about installing on your laptop. There's no way there could be a problem caused by it. But it might tell us something.  Especially if you use the same file you used to install on the other problem. PC.

I still think you have a problem with Bitdefender, that something was left there.
