Some DVD questions
« on: March 04, 2003, 06:22:08 am »

Hi,

1) How can I tell/change which codecs MC9 uses. I have WinDVD and Cineplayer installed.

2) As you have yet to put the full DVD controls in place, is there a keyboard shortcut to bring up the extra controls (the ones in the bottom left of the playback window or right mouse click.) That way at least I can use girder/pronto to bring up this menu and use cursors and Enter to select the options.

3) I can get the forward chapter key shortcut to work but not the previous chapter (it's greyed out.) I have also found the some DVD's (I-Spy) have both forward and back greyed out. Any ideas? I have tried various betas.

4) Any idea on how to get a DVD to autostart AND also get rid of that bloody PCfriendly pop-up!

Regards

I use a program called process explorer from sysinternals.com which will allow you to see all the threads and open files/handles a particular application is using. If you get this program you will be able to see which codecs MC9 is using. I don't know of an easy way to get rid of the PCfriendly popup although a bit of code added to, perhaps to MC9 or a standalone app, could possibly deal with it.

Thanks Carl,

Jim - I'm playtesting various DVD players at the moment to find the best quality, the problem is that I cannot now switch MC9 to use the one I prefer. Zoomplayer allows you to select what you use. I don't need anything as fancy as Graphs, but there must be a way to select which codecs MC9 uses.

Just wondering if anyone had noticed the FF/RW Chapter keys not working?

slikvik,

The only way I know of to kill the PC(un)friendly popups is with Girder (some applications such as Zoom Player, or Theatertek will also kill them, but this assumes that they are running on your computer when you insert a disk).

Girder can be set to close PCfriendly popups (and others) as soon as they show up, and launch your DVD player of choice instead (You'll still see the popup for a fraction of a second though).

I can't seem to figure out how to include an attachement file in this post, so PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send you a Girder group which does the work for Interactual and PCFriendly...
