I seem to have a strange problem on JRiver 27.

With JRiver, there are intermittent crackling noises that happen as my music is playing.

I tested:
- headphones
- my amplifier
- my stand-alone DAC
- playing music on YouTube
- playing music on WMP
- And stand-alone systems on my desk

No settings have been changed on jriver. I triple-checked and have notes of exactly what my settings are. Yesterday it was working fine. I actually opened up one of my headphones to clean the MMCX connectors and checked internal wiring....which turned out to be a complete waste of time because the headphones were totally fine.

This is indeed weird, and might need more details about your setup like OS version, audio output driver being used, DAC type, if WDM driver is being used or not if using Windows, if you're using any DSP Studio > Output Format settings options, if doing any sort of PCM to DSD or vice versa conversion, etc.

The immediate thing that potentially comes to mind which is easy to test for... assuming you're using Windows, maybe something running in the system background is causing spikes in DPC latency? This could cause issues with dropouts, crackling, etc. when listening to audio. Using the free version of LatencyMon might help informing you what's causing it, if indeed DPC latency spikes are to blame. Basically install and run LatencyMon then purposely reproduce the issue in MC27 and see if LatencyMon reports any issues.

You said what you tested, but was the crackling audible on all those?  Or none?  Or some?

I figured it out. Please excuse this thread and consider it a mishap, rather than a problem with JRiver.
Even delete it if you want to. I don't want anyone thinking JRiver is faulty.

JRiver is perfect. 

I switched off Output format, then set it again.
Problem solved.
 
It seems like under device settings, my DAC switched to "direct mode" rather than "direct sound." on a software level, it wasn't locking to my DAC...only using the output passively or the computer sound card. I use all of the most beneficial settings on JRiver... and doing so results in superb sound quality.

I must say, JRiver is the best software for music playback. When I want to make sure a track was mastered properly, I play it back on JRiver. Then on my main system/CD player with a master clock.
