Just stopped working?
« on: March 04, 2003, 09:10:15 am »

Not sure what's happening here...

Yesterday MC was working perfectly.  Today it crashes every time I attempt to play any audio file.  Doesn't matter how I try to play it (double-clicking, playlists, etc.) it just crashes.
I get the following windows error messageto alert me of the crash:
"Media Core has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Nothing has changed on my PC from yesterday to today.  I may have made some adjustments to MC options settings but I don't recall what I did (certainly nothing catastrophic as I'm not an "advanced" user).

Here's my system info:

Ok...should I uninstall the older version...or install the new one right on top?

Ok...I installed the newer version and the exact same thing is happening.  I am at a total loss...everything was working perfectly yesterday!  There have been no changes to my PC at all.  I just don't understand.

Any ideas?  I'm getting the exact same error as in the first post.

Try reinstalling your sound card drivers.

I appreciate the help so far...I'm just getting a little frustrated as I can't understand what's going on.

I uninstalled the old sound card drivers and downloaded and installed them from the manufacturer's website.  I re-booted and tried again.

Same thing.  It's not working.  MusicMatch, WinAmp, & WMP 9 all play fine.  But I don't want those media players...I want my Media Center back!    :-[

Any more suggestions?

Uninstall it to include Registry entries.

Make sure c:\program files\J River      is deleted (or where ever your installing it)

Reboot

Reinstall

====================================

Maybe installing it in the default dir might help just in case. there has been problems before when users changed the location of the install on older versions.

Ok...I did a full uninstall but there's a .dll file that is left behind by the uninstall.  I can't manually delete it.  So I left it.

I then reinstalled, rebooted and everything seems OK.

Thanks for the help.

One more thing...do you have ANY idea what happened?  It's just really odd, isn't it?

Yes, it is all the 0's and 1's they sometimes get mixed up, is it a full moon tonight? if so the 1's get pulled to the right side of the hard drive and the 0's to the left.
