Remote Client to Mac mini Library loading issues
« on: January 05, 2023, 11:22:32 pm »

Running into a really strange issue - I have my main library on my Mac mini. I'm using a MacBook Pro with Media Center loaded as a client. The MacBook doesn't connect to the media server - yet, JRemote connects on my phone - connected to the same network - and (and this is the weird part) - if I completely delete Media Center for Mac off of the MacBook and completely reinstall it- then connect to the remote library, it works - until I shutdown Media Center - once I do that, the next time I start Media Center, it says "Error Connecting to Library" - If I delete and reinstall - it works again.

During this entire time both JPanel (From the very same MacBook) and JRemote (on my phone connected to the same network) works without an issue.

Any ideas?

In case it's helpful - I produced a log while trying to load the library and this seems to be the pertinent area of the error log:

I'll also add that reboots of both the server and the MacBook Pro does not clear this issue.

Same version on both sides?

Any old version running a Media Server?

I had .45 on the macbook and .44 on the server - updated to .45 on the server. Same issue. Almost like it's timing out waiting for some response. It's a fairly large library 120k plus songs but I wasn't having this problem with my Windows server.

Just odd that JRemote and JPanel are working without a glitch on the same network - so I think that eliminates any connectivity issues (firewall, ports, etc.)

Just for good measure I tried to connect via IP address:port as well - same thing.

One more update - I restarted the mac mini server, I deleted and reinstalled MC 30.0.45 on the Macbook pro. I opened MC and connected to the remote library. The load takes about 10-15 seconds, after which everything was there. I added an album to the server. Did a refresh on the client and the new album didn't show up. I did a "sync" and it didn't show up. I shut down MC on the macbook and when I went to reopen MC, it could no longer connect to the server version.

It's like a fresh install connects long enough to get the current state of the library - but after that, it is no longer able to connect. I'm happy to send someone a full error log directly, but since it contains sensitive info I don't want to post it up here. Let me know - this is baffling. Never had this issue between my macbook and windows server - so not sure if this is an issue between MC for mac or what.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

More info: I went into user/myname/library/application support/j river/Media Center 30/connected library

deleted the contents

Loaded the remote library as new and it worked. So at least now I have a way to connect again without uninstalling/reinstalling - and thought I'd share in case it narrows where the issue might be. Some kind of weird file corruption?

this no longer works - so must have been a weird fluke. I'm at a loss...

This resolved after completely deleting MC from the server and reinstalling it - and NOT importing in the old Windows-based library, but just re-importing everything from scratch. So maybe some weirdness with the old files. Not sure. But this part is working now.
