MC adds "ghost track" when adding new albums
« on: February 07, 2023, 10:17:21 am »

Currently running MC 30, Windows 10 (latest build). I've had this issue for years, and it's an annoyance. I'd like to resolve it. When I add new albums to my library, MC additionally adds a single track to the library (see screen capture).

- It is not a one-to-one occurrence, i.e., it doesn't always happen. I haven't seen a pattern, e.g., hard drive, file type.
- It is always the same track: "Sechs Lieder und Romanzen,Op.93a / =Der Falke="
- There is no actual file for that track (see screen capture - the Filename is blank
- MC will keep adding the same track. Over time I've had 20-30 copies of the same track, under the same album.

If you hover your mouse over the track, you should see a file name.
or
Right click and use the tool called Locate.

Maybe it's a hidden file.

No joy. Hovering shows nothing, and Locate > External does nothing. "Play" does nothing. If I try to play the track using JRemote, I get the error: Audio streaming error. There was a problem playing the current audio file.

(It's the last thing that's really an issue for me. I have a smartlist of recently added tracks, and that smartlist crashes whenever the ghost track comes up.)

Take a look at your auto import settings and, in Options, File Locations.

Try renaming the file something.tmp.

Search at the OS level.

If I understand correctly, those are two different actions?
Everything in the auto import settings checks out - it is only looking at valid directories.
I cannot rename the file through the OS because there is no filename. I did add the "something.tmp" filename using MC's tag window; a Windows search for that file had no results.
