Something went wrong with playback
« on: March 12, 2023, 01:47:20 am »

I just installed version 30 and most of my ISO bluray movies show this error message:

Something went wrong with playback
Details:
Playback could not be started on the selected audio output.
etc.

I am bitstreaming over HDMI to a Anthem AVM60 processor which supports pretty much every video/audio format out there.  And some times it works okay.

Is there any log file or place I can find out what the problem is?

Playing the same video, sometimes it works and shows DTS HD Master, and other times it shows the error message.  Does this mean something else might be using the WASAPI plugin and blocking JR from opening it?

sounds like it, try non exclusive mode for a while to confirm?

Make sure you install the latest version from here:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,135371.0.html

There have been some recent fixes for Bitstreaming on Intel graphics cards in particular.

I did find the Intel graphics driver was not the latest, so I installed that.  I also checked JR to make sure I was on v30.0.76.  Restarted the computer a couple of times and then:
Start JR - okay
Play Movie A - okay
Play Movie B - okay
Play Movie A - failed
Play Movie B - failed
I enabled/disabled exclusive mode, both in JR and the audio device in windows, no change.
So the problem remains.
But I did go ahead and install the latest Kodi software and tried it.  I configured Kodi for Passthrough (bitstreaming) and used the same AVM60(WASAPI) audio device.  No problems. I can play any movie, in any order and multiple times and it works every time.  The AVM60 reports the audio stream e.g. as DTS-HD-Master so it is definitely bitstreaming.
The problem must be in the WASAPI plugin within JR.  I would be happy to help the developers troubleshoot this problem as I prefer to use JR instead of Kodi.

WASAPI hasn't changed in a very long time.

30.0.76 has a problem playing old APE files.  It's fixed in the next build which will be posted in a day or two.

The error is WASAPI "failed to load device", not sure it is due to file type.  Is there a diagnostic that shows what it was trying to load and what error it got.  Maybe a system call to Windows 11 of some type?

I resolved the issue by replacing the computer with a different one.  No more problems with WASAPI failing.
