Networking problems with MC?
« on: February 19, 2003, 09:29:51 am »

Several people have reported that they have problems accessing YADB, downloading plug-ins, and using Download Manager in the last few versions of Media Center. We suspect that these problems may be related.

If you have one of the problems listed above or have any other problems accessing network resources through Media Center, please tell us:

1) OS and version of IE
2) name of Firewall program you're using
3) Network type(DSL, Cable, LAN, Dail-up)
4) Other software you are running (all of it, please)
5) any other relevant network information

Thank you for your help,
Nikolay

If there were 10 misses, how many hits were there?

Were they CD's purchased in stores (originally)?

it was about 50% hits and 50% misses i think.

I did reboot and try some of the cd's to see if that changed anything but it was the same (Not Found).

Anyone willing...

Please try stripping down your configurations to the bare essentials to see if that makes a difference.  I know it's some work and it may not solve the problem, but we are stumped.

If things worked before, think hard about what's changed.

I don't know.  About 4 or 5 days ago, I saw an article about a patch for IE 6.0 that fixed a previous patch that was about 2 weeks old or so.  The first patch had caused a problem with "subscriptions", according to the  article.

It could be related.

I don't have any problem accessing YADB (looked up Pearl Jam's No Code without any problem), but everytime I start up MediaJukebox, I think, it tries to check for updates. ('Downloading...' msgbox, Package: Version Info, Status: Connecting, Progress: <blank>).
A MJReader msg box then overlays the other saying that it 'Failed to connect to server'.  This only started fairly recently within the last week.

System Info:
Media Jukebox PLUS 9.0.88 -- D:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\

Please update your version.  It's 9.0.88 and we're on 9.0.119 here -- first thread on this board.

You can tell MC not to check for updates in your settings.

I tried shutting down everything except required system services on XP SP1 and I still can't access YADB for cd lookups.  I've never successfully gotten a track lookup to work either, but it doesn't tell me whether the connection failed, or if the track just wasn't identified.  I thought it had started working for a second, but then I found it was getting the info for the cd from the cdplayer.ini which had a couple of cds in it...

I even went so far as to DMZ my machine from the cable modem router, without success.

BTW your manual still has CDDB in it all over the place which is like throwing salt on my current YADB problems...

As per Steve's "Failed to connect to server" issue, I've just found that I'm getting the same thing.  This is odd, actually, as nothing of any consequence has changed on my system for several weeks now.  Anyone know how I can get myself back up and trolling for updates?
Thanks, ~E

As for specs:
9 beta (same as John)
IE 6.0.28
Win 2x/256
No Firewall
256k ISDN

Sonic Foundry (pretty much everything you can think of)

I tried unticking the .cda association, but YADB still fails to connect...

Using 9.0.120 BTW.

I did a little messing with a packet sniffer on my machine this morning.  Unfortunately, I can't get the program to sniff outgoing packets, so I can't see what MC sent to YADB.  Here is the response from YADB to whatever MC sent though:

HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request
Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2003 14:39:37 GMT
Server: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix)  (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_ssl/2.8.10 OpenSSL/0.9.5a PHP/4.1.2
Connection: close
Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<TITLE>400 Bad Request</TITLE>
</HEAD><BODY>
<H1>Bad Request</H1>
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.<P>
The request line contained invalid characters following the protocol string.<P>
<P>
<HR>
<ADDRESS>Apache/1.3.27 Server at listserver.jriver.com Port 80</ADDRESS>
</BODY></HTML>

Maybe you guys can set up a sniffer/log connections on your end and see what my MC is sending to get that response?

BTW: Clicking on Start: For the latest MC news "click here" doesn't start any network traffic as far as I can tell.  It just fails...
