I'm no kind of expert on DAC design or even on measurable performance comparisons between models, but Benchmark DACs have been the reference DAC of Stereophile's John Atkinson for years. So, it's unfortunate that he and perhaps other DAC reviewers never happened upon this article, or presumably never found its assertions especially significant if they did

https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_warhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_warAssuming intersample overs distortion is only presently in CD recordings, I don't presently stream high res music nor do I own many SACDs, but even at stores that do sell 24-bit downloads by major artists their catalogs are hardly complete.

https://www.hdtracks.com/#/artist/Sergio%20Mendes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Universal_Studios_fireBut DAC owners and those shopping for new ones, who likely have sizable CD collections, should know that industry engineers have concurred that intersample overs distortion is audible.
https://gearspace.com/board/mastering-forum/1401406-intersample-clipping-audible.htmlOn the hardware side, for all any knows this may be the only DAC which actually does reduce IS distortion.
https://www.stereophile.com/content/benchmark-dac3-hgc-da-preamplifier-headphone-amplifier That's because at least as of 2017, as "arve" laments here, IS distortion reduction has yet to be included among Stereophile's DAC performance measurements.
https://www.stereophile.com/content/benchmark-dac3-hgc-da-preamplifier-headphone-amplifierOn the software side, VLC, Roon, HQ and other free or pay players may or may not have filters which can satisfactorily reduce IS distortion in commercially issued music CD recordings.
Thus, you may knowingly or not be able to get better sound out of your CDs, depending on what DAC and/or player you use that can reduce IS distortion.
But can JRiver do this? If not, then I strongly request that its developers insure that it can in the very next version.
