I will be buying v31, the main selling points for me the latter releases have been the upgrades with JRVR so upgrading feels useful. Dreaming of a bit more automation features (home assistant integration) and possibly some UI enhancements.

I already have MC28.  Can I please ask what new features in relation to MC28 are available with MC31?
I want this in order to evaluate if it is worth upgrading to MC31, or wait for later releases.

You'll have to go to the wiki and look at the release notes for MC29 and MC30. MC31 isn't out yet, so there's no release notes (or list of features) for it yet.

Each major version of MC is its own separate app. Installing a newer MC doesn't remove an older MC, you'll have to do that yourself, e.g. Add and Remove Programs in Windows. I'd only recommend doing this after starting MC31 and testing it for a bit to make sure all your settings and whatnot were carried over from MC25, then once satisfied uninstall MC25.
