JRiver changing DAC volume
« on: August 29, 2023, 01:03:21 am »

I’m using JRiver with dCS gears (Rossini, Bartók). Here's what happens:

* I’m playing music with JRiver.
* On my device, I change the input, for example to listen with Roon or Mosaic or for a movie. This puts JRiver on pause/stop and that’s fine.
* After an unspecified time — a few minutes — JRiver puts the DAC on mute (-80db) and I have to manually set the volume back where it was.

I've looked for a preference that would control this behavior, but haven't found any.

Try using stop, not pause.  Exclusive Mode may be causing the problem.  See Audio Settings on the wiki.

Try changing MC's Volume control to Internal or System.

Well, my dCS gears are using UPnP/DLNA and I don’t have access to all the settings. (“Playback stopped or current playback doesn’t support processing”)
In fact, I’ve been more than perplexed since a long time because, however I can’t change the parameters, JRiver is indeed respecting the Volume Leveling, which is what I need since I’m using JRiver for casual listening.

Under audio/advanced there is a setting called
stop after a long pause
Maybe play with that?

That’s the kind of setting I was looking for. I’ve looked : it’s unchecked, but I can’t say since when, because I recently moved my JRiver installation to a new computer. I have the impression that the problem is gone, but I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed for some time until I can be sure it’s cured for good… 🤞
