Volume control problems

Several people have reported problems with the volume control slider not working.  We can't reproduce it.

If you have the problem, please tell us this:

1.  Model of sound card
2.  Is it unusual in any way?  USB, for example.
3.  Your OS.  Please copy your system info from MC Help.

We know the problem is real.  We just can't reproduce it.

Gina 20 by Echo Audio (pci)

The new driver (11-02) for this card incorporates what they call a "purewave" driver, bypassing the windows kernal mixer. I get no volume slider at all if I use this driver, which sounds extremely nice.

I can also use a WDM driver that does go through the windows kernel mixer. I get a volume slider that won't move if I use this driver.

1.  Soundmax motherboard integrated sound and xitel hifi-link usb device.
2.  The motherboard sound is the system default device and I have the hifi-link specified as the default output for Media Center.  The MC volume slider does not work for the hifi-link.  It will work if I switch to a zone configured to use the motherboard sound device.  This has existed for many builds.

Mine is part of the motherboard. The audio setting for the sound device say  'VIA PCI Audio Controller'.

- No volume control slider
- Ctrl++ inoperative
- Ctrl+- inoperative
- Ctrl+M inoperative
This was ok up until somewhere around 90088 and then disappeared. I've tried disabling/enabling the sound drivers many times as well as installing/reinstalling MC more times than I care to remember. In trying to remember what was going on at that time, I had a big prob with 90088 which screwed up my library. I tried to go back to a previous version but got an error message concerning, I think, that the db was the wrong size. At about the same time, I installed KingS's chartfinder which necessitated the downloading of the MS Runtime files. Could there be a link here maybe ?? All other appropriate software that I use, controls the volume ok....

Volume control slider missing.
(present and correct in RealPlayer, WMA and other apps)
"Volume N/A" message when scrolling mouse wheel over missing sloder.
On board sound chip: Creative SoundBlaster Audio PCI64V
Have reinstalled driver (to no effect)

Thanks to your posts, we've realized that the problem is on the Windows 98 side of the family.  We can reproduce it here now and it should be fixed tomorrow.

The neighbours are happy 'cos now I can back the volume down from the 138db that it was stuck on !!!!

Hi JimH,

I'm still having problem with my volume control, on Win XP, even at v118?

The volume control does appear properly on the screen.  It also show the correct volume like 47%

When I try to slide the volume, it does not respond.

The bar does respond to MUTE. but does not respond to volume changes.

When I use the Aureon Control panel, provided by the Aurean product, it can slide the volume.  When the volume changes from the Aureon control panel, Music Center volume bar also move correctly.

Hence, the volume bar in MC appears to be "Read Only".

The sound card is the Terratec Aureon 7.1.  I also have the same problem on the Creative Extigy.  Both cards acts as different channel.

I also checked out Music match.  It does work.
