Stuttering with Tidal & WDM to DAC-Amp Fiio K7 (beyond 96Khz)
« on: November 26, 2023, 07:06:19 pm »

Good afternoon,
Could you help me with this problem:

I listen to Tidal on my PC (Win 11) through the WDM driver and send the music through the USB cable to a DAC - Amp Fiio K7.

The problem is that when the sampling frequency is higher than 96 Khz, a stutter immediately begins, making listening impossible.
I check the data in the Fiio driver each time and find that it only happens beyond 96Khz (176, 192, etc).

I have tried converting those problematic sample rates to 96Khz for all, from DSP in JRiver .....but surprisingly the problem persists.

Finally, I would like to tell you that the problem does not exist if I deactivate exclusive playback.... or if I do not use JRiver and send the signal directly to the K7.... so obviously the problem is JRiver.

Do you have an idea to correct it?
Thanks in advance

You might try increasing the buffer in MC's Options > Audio > Advanced > Live playback latency and see if that makes any difference.

I'd also recommend doing a search of the forums, there's been multiple discussions over the years with users using the WDM driver with Tidal (and Qobuz). Some with success, others with issues like this. And there's a page on the wiki for it too: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/WDM_Driver

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

You're bumping up against some limit of the hardware or connection.  Those are just bigger files.

It's probably not a JRiver problem.

Good afternoon,
Many thanks to Awesome Donkey and JimH for the answers  :)

Donkey, I'm going to try what you tell me and then report back how it goes.

JimH, I don't know what to tell you... I think it's a JRiver problem because if I don't pass the signal through the JRiver driver the problem doesn't happen at all, everything works perfectly... and I've played with the limits sampling rate from Windows and JRiver extensively.

I thought it was a more direct problem to solve and not so much of trying diferent options ....

In any case, I'm going to try more and then I'll tell you ...

If you can suggest something else I can try this weekend I will greatly appreciate it ....

Happy holidays I wish you from now on !  :)

Hi,

I tried going up and down Live Playback Latency .... and the problem remains identical .... I also checked the sampling rate in Windows, I set it to 24 bits and 192 Khz for both JRiver driver and the DAC .... and the problem persists ....

Edit: I also tried the Asio and Wasapi drivers and the same thing happens.

Any other recommendations? ....

Use the bitrates that work.

I don't understand your answer....don't play music beyond 96Khz? ... is that your solution? ....

If you are referring to changing the sampling rates from the JRiver DSP .... don't work either ....

Sample rate, not bitrate.
