how do I tell JRiver to use the tags already in my files?
« on: November 29, 2023, 07:02:03 am »

as an example: I imported my library into the app and  JRiver decided to use its own genre classification. In the screenshot below, I do not have "Progression House" (and many more) genre in any of music files.

Check the tags for the files you think are wrong.

I did check the affected files in foobar and mp3tag. I can confirmed that there are no albums with "progressive house" genre.

It seems to me that JRiver uses a service like discogs/last.fm to get the album genre and decides to ignore what I already have.

Is there a setting to disable these "online" services? I browse around options but didn't find what I'm looking for.

Thanks

eDIT: seems I forgot to attach the screenshot. I'll do that later.

MC doesn't do that.  Did you check the tags in MC?

The top of the tag window shows the values that MC has in your library for each field. At the bottom of that list is a section called "Tag Dump". That shows the values that are in your media file(s). Compare Genre is those two places. If you want to update your library with the values in your files, select a file (or files), right click and choose Library Tools and Update Library (from Tags). That will write the values from your file(s) into your MC library. Do a few to check that it is doing what you want. You can also Update Tags (from Library) which writes your MC Library values to your files. You can, of course, change library fields values directly in the Tag Editor

In MC lingo, Fields are what are in your library and Tags are what are in the files.
