Panel Won't Connect [Solved]

I've used Panel for years, and Gizmo before that. My old computer died, and I set up a new one yesterday. At first Panel worked fine (as did Gizmo). Now, when I try to use either, I get a "refused to connect" message. Any ideas what I should try? I'll be grateful.

Check the firewall in the OS just in case it's blocking it.

Thanks. McAfee had superceeded Windows security, and I couldn't find a way to turn off a firewall. I uninstalled it--never been a fan, anyway--and now I'm connecting okay. Here's hoping that lasts.
