'Errors while tagging' message
« on: January 28, 2024, 10:10:35 am »

Anyone know why I frequently get this message popping up when I am changing some minor tagging data: 'Media Center encountered errors while tagging or moving files. Check that the files exist, or are not read-only, and are not in use by other programs'? It only started in the last build or so. It's actually annoying because it copies into clipboard too. Thanks!

Yeah me too.
I seem to be getting this Error Message a lot lately.
I think it is false coz stuff seems to have been edited correctly. Dunno why it keeps nagging me. Never did before.

Hmm, me too. Do the file paths have double back-slashes:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,137956.0.html

Check your hard drive to see if MC is trying to create strange folders, resulting in double entries in your library that are missing tags! This is happening randomly, when no one has initiated any sort of rename/move/copy command!

No double back-slashes and nothing looking strange in the hard drive(s).

FWIW, I'm no expert and may be completely unrelated reason, but whenever I've gotten this message I think it's because the aggregate path length of whatever I've been trying to move or edit in MC, (where I've selected under /Tools/Options/General/Advanced/Support Extra Long File Names)  exceeds Windows limits for cumulative path length.

When that's happened, I've either shortened the Windows path/file names, or copied the folder to somewhere with a shorter path length (e.g. Desktop), done the file editing there, and afterwards manually (i.e. Explorer) copied it back to the folder it was in.

Interesting...but in my case I am only changing or adding very minor details in tagging: 'date' or 'country' for instance.

When it’s happened to me, if the Windows path is too long, tag edits that modify the file trigger the error message.

Yeah me too.
This tagging error has only just started happening.
All settings have remained the same throughout - including the Antivirus. [only ever used Windows Defender]

For me, it's Bitdefender.

Please uninstall anything other than Windows Defender, just to test.
